KNOCK SQUEEZE PINCH - STILL NOT LIKE THE PICTURE IN THE FLYER
by Jennie Plant, Brampton
22-May-2010
The flyers are so pretty that I purchased a watermelon
based on the picture for $2.99
I saw some people knocking them to see if they were good. Some people squeezed them or scratched them. So I knocked, squeezed and scratched them pretending to know what I was doing.
I picked one. Carried it all the way from the store to the car very carefully so I do not drop it and crush. Then from the parking lot all the way to my apartment.
On the elevator some people even comments that they hope it is good.
I said what do you mean I saw the picture in the flyer and the store does not sell bad things. It can not be bad it must be good.
I was so proud to finally get home and place in the refrigerator for when my husband and kids arrive.
Only to find out that when I started cutting it I realize the skin was more than 2 inches thick. I need a hammer and a hand saw or maybe an axe to crack it open. Finally, finally there was so much skin and the red portion was so pale, I turned pale too.
At that moment I began to cry that I made such a fool of myself.
There must be a law with very heavy penalities to stop people from using beautiful pictures to sell things.
What do you think am I right or wrong. Any one out there have the same problems. Or was I just not lucky.

American Naive
by Anonymous Citizen, kinston
17-Mar-2010
The whole United States goes to the drain.
People walking on the streets and talking to their self. Some people commit suicide and lost their business and houses.
The Aamerican Government spend months and months try to solve their Health Issues.
The employment rise ever than before.
There is no light on a horizon for them.
Their soldiers are getting killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their exports are in a minimum.
Their crime rates are higher than ever before.
Those are very few of the hundreds issues problems etc. etc.
And watching the American television I noticed that one of the television show by the name Larry King live they spend on 17th of March a long time to discuss the Tiger Woods issues. What kind of thinking is this?
What kind of mentality they use.
Are there any people there that have few grams of brain to stop nonsense like this.
To try at least to solve some of their problem or even try to save their dollar that going down to the toilet.
If you are frustrated as I am with their stupidity write another column similar to mine and get your frustration out.

THE NEW DOLLAR STORE
by Jose Vega, Toronto
27-Feb-2010
I noticed that No Frills is selling bottled water for $1.00 per case.
Is this a desperate tactic to bring customers into the store? Have they lost customers? Or are they going to become a new dollar store?
There used to be a variety of products that brought customers into the stores years ago. However, the selection of products available is now a at a minimum.
I have not been in this chain for years because I acquired an aversion to yellow. Since many of my favourite brands disappeared from the shelves.
No variety whatsoever. What a pity.

WATER SPECIALS IN CANADA - SEND WATER TO HAITI
by Tony Piper, Windsor
27-Feb-2010
Lately I have noticed that bottled water has become a regular weekly special in some major chain grocery stores.
$1.00 or 2 for $3.00 per case.
Out of a sense of humanity, why do these chains simply send a few shipments to earthquake ravaged Haiti or a drought plagued country on the African continent thereby showing compassion for those less fortunate.

HOW CALLOUS, UNFEELING AND RUDE THE PRESS HAS BECOME
by jane doe, Toronto
16-Jan-2010
On Friday, January 15, 2010, two of Toronto?s major newspapers provided its readers with a gruesome photo of what seemed to be a massive dump site of dead bodies in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
Was this necessary?
How disrespectful to the dead, to the survivors of the disaster, the loved ones, the relatives, the friends, and including to our suffering, stoic and courageous Governor General, Her Excellency, Michaelle Jean, whose country of birth, is the site of this tragedy.
I ache for the people of Haiti. May our great and merciful God turn his eyes on this situation, we pray.
To all non believers, your thoughts and or beliefs, at this time, are insignificant.
To the press, reports, bloggers, etc. PLEASE SHOW RESPECT ? tragedy/accidents/negative acts can happen anywhere, at anytime, in the twinkling of an eye.

What has happened? I still love picking up the phone and hearing the voice of that loved one, or the excitement in the voice of a friend who is really, really happy to hear from you.
The faceless, voiceless, picture perfect photo plastered face book, or tweeter, lets the world know what ? I am hot, or hot ? less, a total jerk, lonely, needy, needy person who suddenly is international. Oh my, I did not finish college, high school and every one know by my spelling. Ha, Ha, Ha.

Quiznos Chicken Uncooked
by Shiraz Ismail, Aurora
02-Oct-2009
Last Saturday (September 26, 2009)we bought a sandwich combo deal from Quiznos in Waterloo on our way to Sarnia. We also got one of the $2.00 sammies. The chili with the combo tasted like beans with tons of spice and the chicken in the sammy was raw. When my wife complained and took the sammy back, they gave her another one with a different kind of chicken meat which tasted even wierder. This store advertised as being under new management. I wonder if they got proper training to cook the foods before serving. I also tried to leave a comment on Quiznos' website, but the site is not designed to accept any comments/complaints.

Keele North bus to reach my workplace.
by FED UP, TORONTO
16-Jun-2009
I work north of highway 7 and need the Keele North bus to reach my workplace.
The TTC fare is $2.75 to Steeles and an additional $3.00 has to be deposited up departing the TTC bus in York Region.
My daily TTC fare to and from work is $11.50.
However, while waiting for the Keele North bus, I find that the TTC has more respect for York University students than working people because 10, yes, 10 Route 196 buses arrived at Keele and Finch before 1 Keele North bus arrived.

OVER ENFORCED PARKING
by Angelina Ministroe, TORONTO
30-May-2009
What is happening in this city?
We went down to the Danforth to enjoy a meal on the open patio and watch the world pass by.
We noticed that a parking enforcement officer was apparently assigned to sneak up on drivers the moment they left their car for a second to place a ticket on the car.
We sat there for over 2 hours on the patio watching him fill his quota of tickets for the day. It seemed liked he had all the information filled in, with only the licence plate informaton needed. He was so swift at with his process.
We sympathized with the drivers who stopped for a minute to pick up some pastry, soulvkai or a coffee, only to return to find a parking ticket on their cars.
One lady with her pastry tray in hand was so angry, we thought she was about to throw it at him.
What has this city come to? Is this the way the city is making money by intimidating drivers?
There is no adequate parking facilities. Where are patrons supposed to park?

poor service
by evelyn gerencser, hamilton
14-May-2009
This morning I went to Fortino's grocery store on Dundurn St. in Hamilton to pick up a few things. I have difficulty walking and use a cane.
First, I was suprised at the price of milk $6.19, I have been away for a few months but this price is outrageous. This particular store is undergoing some changes and only the signs at the front of the store indicate what is in each aisle, since I was at the back of the store, I asked a staff member where I could find the jam. He told me the wrong aisle so I still had to search for this product. When it was time to check out I purchased a reusable bag, however the cashier placed my eggs in the bottom and the rest of the groceries on top. I checked the bag before I left the counter and yes, suprise suprise, the eggs were cracked she suggested that I could walk over to the other side of the store to replace them. I suggested she be more careful in future. When I finally left the store a taxi had pulled up blocking the exit ramp and I had to wait while he discharged a fare. This is not Fortino's fault, but was the last straw.
I realize that this complaint may seem petty but I have just returned from Florida where customers are always treated with respect and courtesy
Fortino's does not seem to have a complaint department

HAKIM is full of sh*t
by Helen Da Silva, Toronto
12-May-2009
I wish I had read all the negative comments before going to Hakim Optical. It seems that quality customer service is not their first priorty.
I paid $623 for glasses on the $199 for two pair promotion. Suffice it to say , it was not a promotion at all and the staff are very rude. The location that I went to is the one directly across from City Hall Toronto (65 Queen St. W/Bay and Queen)
I had better service at Pearle Vision and The Bay Optical. NEVER EVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM HAKIM>

No longer a futureshop customer
by Mandy Fairbairn, Barrie
08-May-2009
This is an email I sent to service@futureshop.ca. I don't believe any results will come of this.
On Apr. 2, 2009 at approximately 11:00am at you Barrie, Ontario location, my husband and I perchased an Acer Desktop, an HP Compaq Laptop, and Epson Printer and various accessories along with a 3 year warrenty on both computers.
I asked before the final sale if the warrenty covered everything, and the salesperson(I can't remember his name but I do recall he was a heavyset gentleman, his name should be on the bill of sale) said that everything was covered including parts and labor along with a free replacement if its too expensive to fix and even a loner. We purchased our items and left.
I got it out of the box, installed the items and it crashed to a blue error screen. It did this about 8 times in the next 3 weeks, I was a little frustrated and thinking I should take it in a have the guys look at. Knowing I had 3 years I took my time.
On Apr 29, 2009(Yes, less then a month) I was playing with my daughter on my laptop and without warning she got sick all over it. We immediately turned it off, unplugged it and took out the battery. We cleaned it up and I immeditely went for the phone. I thought no big deal I have a warranty. Boy, was I in for a surprise.
The next day, after lettign it dry out we turned it on. Everything was running, hardrive, disk drive, fans, even the internet connected. The only thing that wasn't working was the moniter.
I took it Futureshop and explained what had happen. I was told that physical damage wasn't covered under warrenty.
I asked the tech, "What do you mean, I told everything was covered."
He then told me, "I'm sorry you were under that misunderstanding but there is nothing we can do." His attitude made me feel very stupid, which made me ver irrate.
I asked him "What did I pay $200.00 for. I've only had this for a month."
He said, "It just covers manufacturing defects"
Well thank god for small favors. He then said for my trouble, he would waive the administration fee when they submitted it for repair.
I then asked how much it would to repair. He told me that it could cost up to 900.00 to fix. I almost fell over. "I just handed you guys 2500.00 3 weeks ago and you want me to give you another 900.00!"
He said it might not cost that much they could get a quote.
I asked"What happens if I can't afford to repair it?" He said we could get you a futureshop card and give you a deal on a new one. First, I can't get approved for a futureshop card, and second if I could this does not change the fact that I was cheated out of 200.00 and am now being forced into another 900.00
I said no dice. He then said he could hook me up with a monitor and I could turn it into a desktop. Ok, but I bought a laptop.
So that aside for now, I asked him well what about my warrenty. He told me that when I buy a new machine he would transfer my warrenty on to that one.
So I submitted my machine and the employee then tested one more time and said that I might be in luck. We both looked and saw a bit of the start screen when before it was just black. He said it could be the cable that goes to the monitor which is a 40.00 repair. Finally some good news. I was a little better but still feeling the sting of the "Sucks to be you" attitude that I recieved from both the employee and the manager who had joined us. Just a suggestion, demand better attitudes from your employees.
On May 7, 2009, I recieved a phone message from Karen x7111 from the futureshop service centre saying the there was water damage on the hard drive, motherboard, optical drive(disk drive) keyboard top cover, bottom cover, and main board. and the quote was 649.00 + tax. If all those things were damaged, the machine would not work at all. We opened the disk drive there was NO water in WHATSOEVER. We cleaned the keyboard and saw for ourselves that the keyboard was sealed completely, so how could the water damage it. If the motherboard was damaged there would be no way that it would connect to the wireless internet, no way the hard drive would work, no way I would get any kind of a start screen, and no way the fans would work. The top cover still had the plastic on it for god's sake so you tell me how that's water damage. Add everything and she is telling me that I need to replace the entire computer! What The HELL!!!!!
I realise that water damage is a physical damage event, but my daughter is 5 years old. There is no warning or avoidence. You can move a coffee cup, decide not to take it out in the rain. But a 5 year old in fine one second and the next second she's damaging your laptop. If you are going to sell warrenties under the premise of "EVERYTHING IS COVERED" then you should at least honor it. I had to save up my money, I researched for weeks to find just the right store to spend my money at. I chose the perfect machine, although is it have some bugs, I was happy with the decision I made.
And here I am just 3 WEEKS LATER, out a laptop, out 900.00, and extremely frustrated.
After receiving the message, I called back and informed that there was no way I could afford that. I then called the Futureshop back. I asked for the tech department and talked the Brian. I told him the situation and politely asked what I should do. He told me that I should take it to an independent repair shop who might be able to fix it for cheaper. I told him fine, I will need to have my warrenty refunded since I will not be able to use it once some other company touches it. Brian forwarded me to Fadi, the store manager. I asked for the refund. Fadi said I need a reciept. I told him it's been a month and I lost it. He told me sorry there was nothing he could do for me. He told me that if I come in and buy a new machine in the next 14 days he could transfer the warrenty to that one. WHAT!!!!!!! I told him I couldn't afford that and I was told by the tech guy that it was transferrable when I was ready to buy again. I am then again told "I am sorry you misunderstood" mmmm starting to feel really stupid now. He told me that it's only transferrable if it's stolen or if it's claimed under insurance. (Let's play the run around game again shall we) I told him that I want my money, he said he couldn't do anything without the receipt. MY reciept is in YOUR computer you can print 2 copies. He said sorry but no. (Take my money and run) So fine. I'm totally out 900.00 for something that was out of my control.
I made calls to independent repair shops, and the consenses is: If the computer was working in the condition it was when I left in your techs so called capable hands there is absolutely no way it would cost 650.00. one of the direct quotes was "I was being snowballed". Which I had a gut feeling anyway.
I will be taking my brand new laptop to another repair shop to find the REAL problem and the will guarentee FREE 100% physical damage, spillage and anything I want to do to it.
If they deem it unrepairable they are honoring my heartache by buying it off me on consignment parts. My Brand New Laptop may now have to stripped down and sold for parts. But the very nice and very understanding technician said there is something that should be done for me. I even got a surprise, about 5 mins later I got a call from the store's owner personally and he wanting to first apologize for what I have gone through and he wanted to do everything he could to make me happy. I will be buying my next laptop and any other computer products them as they are handling YOUR customer service.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. Now I am not expecting to get my money back or my computer fixed, but I will tell you this. If I get my computer back in a condition other then what I left it at or my computer store opens it up(He is really itching to get his hands on it to see what's actually needed to be fixed) and finds that someone has tampered with it I will be calling my lawyer and laying charges.
If one thing is learned, if you even are interested in this email, I suggest you lay into the Barrie Futureshop employees. Tell them to stop lying to the customers before someone charges every department of the company for fraud as people are in BC and Quebec already. I know Big Box stores like don't give two craps about little customers, but since this has happened, my brother in law, sister, parents , and two of my neighbors are never entering your store again for fear of being ripped off like me. If I thought you would even care at all, I'd go to news with this. But the only thing you all care about is $$$$$$ and how you can sucker as much of it out of us. I've had better experiances from Walmart for god's sake. I will never stop shopping there because even though they are a big box company you never get a hassle on returns. They stand behind there products, warrenties and there customer service is efficient and polite.
You will not receive another red cent from my family at all. My husband is even contemplating taking back everything else we bought that day. We are not satisfied with our products at all.

Know your legal rights!!!!
by Fani Tsakanikas, Toronto
06-Apr-2009
Have you ever purchased something and it did not work or broke and had trouble with the store from which you purchased it from?
Have you ever been hit from the global problem of Identity Theft?
Ever been overcharged for a repair?
Had warrenty issues?
Do you have a Will?
Do you have children who are being bullied?
I have the solution it's called Pre-Paid Legal Care of Canada Inc.
I have a membership which allows me to access a lawyer with any question or concern and they will write letters on my behalf and or make phone calls and help me deal with my problems.
Let me tell you what happened to me. I had an Esso card for my car. I decided to cancel my card and go with another company and in the meantime I had overpayed my account by $1300.00. I called them and asked them to refund my monies and they said they would refund, this was in September of 2008. Last month after the 4th call to Esso I called my lawyers at Pre-Paid Legal. He wrote a letter on my behalf and asked for the monies immediatley including interest from Sept. 2008.
Two weeks later I received a cheque for over $1400.00 and a letter of apologie from Esso. No more phone calls or hassles.
This membership cost less than a dollar day and offers a complete wall of protection...I didn't have to pay a penny more for the legal help I received!
I now have OPRAH Power!!! I have 24hours a day to over 50 lawfirms in Canada and the United States.
If you want to know about this membership please call me directly at 416 871 2472.
Thank you Fani

STUPID CLOCK - DESIGN AND QUALITY IKEA OF SWEDEN
by Angela Simms, Oshawa
19-Mar-2009
My son purchased a clock designed and made for IKEA of Sweden, RUSCH 16589 as my Christmas gift.
It is a nice looking clock but it does not work.
I have tried Duracell regular and rechargeable batteries, Ever Ready, Energizer, etc.
However, the darned second hand of the clock keeps moving backward and forward.
I do not want to hurt his feelings. The clock is displayed on the wall in my study. Fortunately, he does not yet know how to tell the time.
Design and Quality IKEA of Sweden.
I wonder if IKEA personnel purchase their products.

DISASPPOINTED WITH SAMSUNG PRINTERS
by Samsung Disappointment, Toronto
19-Mar-2009
We are a medium sized company and purchased some Samsung Printers for our office.
We had been quite satisfied with these printers until recently. No office supply store seems to be carrying the replacement ink cartridges any more.
What are we supposed to do? The Samsung Company decides to make a product, promote a product, make people like us believe and buy the product. And now Samsung has stopped making the ink cartridge. We have tried to locate the replacement ink cartridge from our regular supplier Office Depot, and all other depots.
Our Samsung Printers are now sitting idle. What are we supposed to do with them?
We have to pay to dump them and purchase new machines WHICH WILL NEVER BE SAMSUNG.
We are no longer playing the game: SAMSUNG SAYS!
While checking the Samsung website it states that over 40 million people trust Samsung for their business communication. What a joke! We wonder how many of them have found themselves in the same predicament as we have: SAMSUNG PRINTERS NEEDING REPLACEMENT INK CARTRIDGES THAT SAMSUNG NO LONGER MAKES.
WE ARE VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED AT THE SAMSUNG COMPANY AND THE NAME SAMSUNG AND WILL NEVER TRUST THE NAME SAMSUNG AGAIN.

loblaws braces for a tough year, and so do I
by Seiko Ofhshito, Toronto
21-Feb-2009
For years and years we have listened to Loblaws crying that they are losing money. True because the parking lots are empty. Of course, since they seem to be catering only to selective customers who love memories of shescua and panduri. The variety of product brands are at a minumum or non existant. There is no selection whatsoever. I was amazed at the article in the newspaper. I cannot understand the photo, no cars, no customers in the background, yet there is one lonely lady with a buggy full of items in front of the store. Maybe this happens only in Quebec or the photo enchancing abilities are far advanced.
Suddenly their profits are up in this recession time. How did this happen? Can they explain this to others retailers who are crying the blues? Maybe they should be advisors to Obama who is trying to lead his nation out of this slump without having busineses closing left, right and center.
Are their profits mainly from tweaking its prices - as the article states. What the hell does tweaking mean anyway? Is it a new way of saying tweaking customers.
For years I have not shopped there because of their tweaking practices.
To understand my letter see the Star, Feb. 19,09 Business section. Tweak your reply.

08-Dec-2008
I had just received a new Rx and took it to a Hakim store closeby the Optometrists office....After a short while browsing I found a pair of frames that I really liked and presented them to the lady working there to find out the price...without hesitation she said the frames I gave her would not be suitable for my prescription ( which at this point was still in my pocket) ???
I thanked her for her help and left....I will never go back to Hakim...NEVER

I recently purchased a box of compliments butter flavor popcorn from one of your stores. My son is always eating popcorn and he loves it but this box was not a good one. Over half the popcorn didn't pop and when he put it back it burned even without all the corn popping. We had the 297g box which has three bags of popcorn and we couldn't even manage to get a half bowl of popcorn from it.

Hakim Optical- last place to buy glasses
by P Rux, Thornhill
30-Sep-2008
At Hakim optical I have had the worst experience since I am wearing glasses (which is about 25 years). I purchased 2 pairs at the price of 1 (called promotion) for a very high price and they were both wrong, I got too dizzy to reach the door of the store with them on? They agreed not that they made a mistake but they need to be re-done. The second time the regular prescription glasses were ok but the polarization coat on the prescription sunglasses was awful. It was basically a collection of polarized spots covering not even half of the area of the lenses. They were so rude, they just wouldn't see it, or at one point they said in the couple of days I had them home I over exposed them to the sun (what are the sun glasses for??). The third time was pretty much the same, but I stopped fighting.... I am just keeping them on the shelf because I will never go back to Hakim, maybe just to file a complaint?.

WELCOME TO ONTARIO
by MONTREAL DRIVER, MONTREAL
12-Jul-2008
Re: ONTARIO, WHERE IS THE WELCOME
I was driving from Quebec to Ontario for a first time visit.
Soon after I passed the Ontario border I saw the signs from the Ministry of Transportation listing a schedule of fines: 120 Kilometres $90.00, 130 Kilometres xxx dollars, and so on. It reminded me of a restaurant menu.
I was surprised. Should there not have been a greeting ?WELCOME TO ONTARIO? instead of instilling fear in drivers,
A few kilometres down the highway, I was greeted by an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser hiding behind the bushes with the radar gun in hand. Such an important job sitting ding there to catch drivers. A few kilometres further down was another one. In fact, they were stationed every few kilometres, behind the bushes, the bridges, the signs, camouflaged.

KFC, Kingsdale Ave., Blossom Park, Ottawa drop n pack food
by Judy R, Ottawa
03-Jul-2008
I'd hope that anyone purchasing food from this particular KFC will watch the 'cook', particularly if it is someone named Jeremy, an older 40-50 something fellow who has an earring in his right ear and a smirk that if KFC has any common sense, will be wiped off when he's let go. Perhaps he wants to lose this position though.
I ordered a $60.52 20 pc mega meal tonight with additional fries, gravy and pepsi. After waiting over 20 minutes for it because it had to be prepared, I watched while 'Jeremy' the 'cook' put the chicken pieces on a tray, and then dropped one of the larger ones onto the floor. He picked it up, looked as though he was tossing it in the garbage but instead, after looking with a smirk right at me, put the piece right alongside all the others. When I asked if he shouldn't be throwing it out instead he just smirked again and began singing.
I told him I hoped that wasn't going into my bucket which of course he ignored, carried the chicken over to the counter and it was put into the bucket.
When I told the 'supervisor' she went outside where Jeremy was now having a cigarette and questioned him only to return and state he said he'd set the piece aside, that it didn't go in the bucket with the rest. I explained exactly what I'd seen and then another employee wanted to know the problem. The 'supervisor' began stating that 'allegedly' the piece had fallen, 'allegedly' it was put back with the rest...I told her there was no 'allegedly' about it and I would be happy to go back and show her exactly what had happened.
She indicated this had never happened on 'her watch' before and she didn't know what to do about it. When another soon to be customer inquired as to whether they had a garbage bin for dropped food she explained about a red bin where food dropped is suppose to go and then she counts each bit at the end of the evening. The poor fellow was so turned off that a piece had fallen and been placed back on with the others that he said he wasn't ordering anything from there and left.
I really should have invited the staff to partake of this grungy food and demand my money back but unfortunately I think better 'after the fact' and of course I thought of many good 'should have done's' while driving away! Instead I grabbed the garbage and left and rather than demand my money back I ended up warning my family to pick and choose very carefully and avoid the larger pieces. I kept having visions of Jeremy doing other wonderful things to my food and simply couldn't eat any of it.
Meanwhile Mr. Jeremy was outside laughing and enjoying the good humor in my situation and making comments to some other fellow as I left.
If KFC is at all concerned about the health and reputation of their franchise operations perhaps Mr. Jeremy will have enjoyed his last laugh for awhile as I would hope that 'cooks' and employees like Jeremy would be unceremoniously canned.
Pepsi won't even be something I'll purchase from any KFC from now on...too bad for them because our family eats out fairly often and $60 was a smaller meal for our gathering tonight and until now, KFC was a fairly standard fare.
I just hope the poor fellow who had ordered the 10 piece meal after me didn't get the 'floor' special in his box instead.

Hakim Optical extremely bad service
by Sharron O'Hara, Carp
04-Jun-2008
I purchased 2 pairs of glasses one clear one pair of sunglasses December 27/08 at Hakim Optical at 145 Roland Michener Drive, Kanata Ontario. When they came in 2 weeks later the right lense on one pair and the left lense on the other was completely wrong. They had to send them back and because they were changing them anyway I asked if I could change one of the frames for a differnt frame and after talking to managers the employee agreed. I waited another
2 weeks but when they came back this time the left lense in BOTH pairs of glasses were wrong. They told me they would not pay to replace the lens this time because they let me change frames when they returned them the first time.....all they had to do is put the other frames back on the shelf as they had not been used.....they were not loosing anything. They wanted me to pay $120.00 for EACH pair to send them back again. They tried to blame the optimistrist but on return to her she said the prescription was correct for my eyes. On April 7, 2008 I sent a registered letter explaining the problem to Mr Bijan Minbashian, Vice President of Operations of Hakim Optical in Toronto and I have never even received so much as an acknowledgment that the letter was received which it was as it was registered. COMPLETELY IGNORED BY HAKIM!!!!!!
I will never go back to Hakim Optical again and suggest to anyone who doesn't want a lot of hassles and stress to avoid them also.

Hakim Optical
by Diane Tepper, Thorold
28-May-2008
I bought glasses for my 19 year old daughter from Hakim and within a week the arm fell off. Took them back and they replaced it with the wrong colour after an argument with them. Within the month the same problem occured and went back and they refused to fix it. I mentioned that the arm they first replaced wasn't even the same colour or same kind and the salesperson was very very rude and wouldn't do anything about it. I WOULD NEVER NEVER buy glasses from them again. My daughter has since bought new ones at another optical company and has never had any problems with them. My advice? STAY AWAY FROM HAKIM.

Hakim Optical glasses is a rip off
by Roderick Brentnall, Toronto
02-May-2008
Recently bought glasses at Hakim optical but they leave my eyes with such a burning sensation that I stoppped wearing them. When I consulted my optician with the problem, as Hakim refused to do anything,he told me that glasses from this store will ruin your eyes and to not go there.Hakim refuses to re inbourse me of the price of the eyewear so I have started a lawsuit against them to remedy this problem.Apparently the pescription they gave me is much stronger than the prescription I gave them.
I would not reccomend this business to anyone buying eyewear.

Ontario Snow Removal - bad service
by M. A., Richmond Hill
28-Apr-2008
Problems:
1. No show. Sometimes they will not show up at all. So you may wait for a long time and end up shovel the driveway yourself because you have to go out.
2. After we have a snow storm on the night before, they won't come the next morning (even we waited till 11am). And we have to shovel our driveway so that we can take our car out to work. Then why do we pay for the service?
3. They said we can call them anytime if we have questions when we signed up. But the truth is: the phone line is always busy and it does not allow you to leave messages. How do we contact them?
4. They don't deliver what they promised. When I signed up, I asked specifiably whether they will come two times (once in the morning, once after street plow), two persons on the phone said yes. But after I signed up, it never happens.
If this service is not possible or require extra money, then why do they lie? When I signed up, the sales rep only said we can call them after the street plow came, and they will come right the way. This never happens, phone never works, people never get a hold with and they never come the second time.
If this is clear that they won't come two times, we will not sign up with them in the first place.
5. They won't plow the driveway when there is car on the driveway (on a double driveway). I asked them specifiably on this because sometimes we have to park one car outside, again, if this is not possible, we won't sign up either. Then they said yes, they will do it. But the truth is, they never do it. They will skip your house if they see a car on the driveway.
One time there was more than 25cm of snow on the driveway and they didn't show up. Our car got stucked on the driveway because of the huge amount of snow. Their truck came and saw that we had a car parked outside, they left. This is unbeliveable. The next day, my husband had to go out and shovel the snow himself and get the car back to the garage. Since he only shovelled one side of the driveway, we called them to arrange a time to come by and get rid the other half, they refused. They had a very bad attitude on the phone. They are very unprofessional.
6. The quality of the snow removal service is bad. After they plowed, the middle part of the driveway still covered with a lot of snow. This is bad because when the weather becomes warmer, the snow will melt; then cooler, the water will become ice again. They made the driveway extremely dangerous for anyone to walk on.
--------
I am very disappointed with the snow plow service this year. The problem is they lie about their service, and they don't deliver what they promised. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.
Because we can't trust their service anymore after the 25cm snow storm in Feb 2008, my husband ended up did all the shovelling himself. Because if they didn't come at all, the snow will be lot harder to move the next day... If you check the BBB website, there are many people already filed complains for their snow removal service in the last season (http://mwco.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=160&bbb=0107&firm=1163662).

Smokers rights or lack of
by Jennifer Morrison, Brampton
13-Apr-2008
I totally understand the rights here on both sides those who smoke want to be considered as people and not criminals and those who dont smoke dont want to breathe in the smoke from those that do but I really think that a point needs to be made here. before you complain the next time you see a person smoking remember the taxes they paid for those smokes and if the government stopped getting that tax money from tobacco who would pay it, of course we would have to make that tax up somewhere so it would be all of us whether we smoked or not this is a issue that is never going to make everyone happy but if you are a smoker then you have the right to smoke and not be looked down for it you made that choice and it is your life and you know the effects of it and if you are not a smoker then live your life the way you want to live it and dont worry about what other people are doing with thier life

DAILY TRANSIT FARE OF $11.00 VERY EXCESSIVE
by Walijng DAILY, Concord
06-Apr-2008
Toronto Transit Commission
1900 Yonge Street
Toronto, Ontario M4S 1Z2
Dear Sirs:
The industrial manufacturing area of Snidercroft Road is the source of employment for over one thousand (1,000) people. Workers ride the 41 Keele Street buses to Steeles or Finch Avenues and then transfer to the 107 Keele North bus(es) which run out of Downsview Station. Some workers opt to walk the extra mile into Snidercroft because of the Extra Fare required for this short ride. The distance from Steeles to Snidercroft is one block, but unfortunately this one block is one mile long. In addition, just north of Steeles is the bridge for the train and there is no sidewalk. This makes it very dangerous for the workers who decide to walk the distance. The small path used by workers is usually covered with snow and ice and is very slippery in the winter time which causes people to walk on the street which is ultimately more dangerous.
Is there any possibility of having the Keele Street bus allowing workers access to Snidercroft Road for the regular TTC fee of $2.75. This will certainly have a positive effect on the mental health of workers (and less swearing at our excellent Transit System which is famous around the world).
Most of the workers are paid approximately $8.75 to $10.00 per hour and a double daily fare is somewhat excessive. Your immediate attention to this matter would be appreciated.

Panic with the noise of the Canada geese
by Tracey Manning, London
27-Jan-2008
I visit this site regularly in the privacy of my home.
It is my a part of my private time I indulge in when my kids and husband are asleep. Since everything is quiet. The other day, while surfing I suddenly changed the page and somehow my speaker was very loud, I clicked on the next page and all of a sudden I had an invasion of Canada Geese.
I was shocked, knocked over my tea and almost fell off my chair. I tried my utmost to lower the volume, in my panic I could not find the switch. My husband awoke and asked what was going on. I told him and he was able to control volume. However, we ended up clicking into the Canada Geese banner and together, we enjoyed the story.
Needless to say, we both agree it is the best story we ever read.

Happy Newsletter Recipient
by Angela Pignata, Mississauga
27-Jan-2008
I received some newsletters from www.flyermall.com. I apparently signed up as a subscriber some time ago
The newsletter about the word conniption was very informative and very correct. I never knew what the word meant, but now every time I go to the grocery store, I avoid having one.
Thank you.
Additionally, I spent a beautiful day out at the Downsview Flea Market..... which I found through the newsletters. It was a great experience. With $20 I filled up my trunk with fresh vegetables. Should I have gone to Loblaws or Domionion I would have had to spend over $60.
I was humbled to hear so many thank you,s from the merchants.
I love all the flyers and the newsletter a such a personal touch.

kentucky fried staff
by alison webb, ottawa
27-Jan-2008
I feel for the starving person that went to the kfc on highway seven. My husband and I went to one on st.Laurent in ottawa for a family bucket and the fixings. we love this indulgence once in a while and so do our four kids. We scanned the menu on the wall and saw quite the deal with a bucket ,a salad of our choice , and extra fries. At our turn to order, I said to the server, "the extra fries with our order would be a little too much grease for us so could you please just give us another salad with it instead?" To my utmost embarressment she answered (quote, unquote), "you get what you get"!! I asked if I'd heard her right and she just answered again, like some sort of machine,"you get what you get" without even looking at my face. I walked out of the restaurant and told everyone I know about this poor woman that works there who is soon to be on an unemployment line because of her hate for her job.

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES - THE BEST VIEWING ON TELEVISION
by Happy Viewer, WOODBRIDGE
27-Jan-2008
I have spent most of my life watching nonesene on cable television. Until, and I thought that I had the best, I was surfing the www.flyermall mainpage and I discovered TCM. I did not know what it meant so I continued and discovered TCM meant Turner Classic Movies. Upon further investigation I obtained a satellite and installed TCM on my television. It is the best thing that ever happened to me, watching my favourite movies without interruption. I am also able to learn about the movie, the actors and its history in great detail from the host Robert Osborne
I am very sad for the years I lost before that.

it's not a sale if you do not have the item in stock
by Marilyn Norris, London
08-Jan-2008
A few weeks ago, Loblaws had Maple Leaf bacon on sale for two days only, for 1.99/package. Of course, no rainchecks...
So i went in early the first day to get a package or two, and all they had was a sign saying "sorry sold out, no rainchecks". Hmmm! So i came back the next day, for day 2 of the 2 day sale..Again, same sign..
How frustrating!
So on Monday ( the sale was for Sat. and Sunday).. i had to go in "just for fun" and see if they had any bacon available...Guess WHAT?? they had re stocked all the bacon (this was 9am, and when they closed the night before they had none) plenty of bacon available for sale...price??? $5.99/package...ahhhhhhhhh!

small is beautiful
by chrsitie hanak, toronto
07-Jan-2008
dear consumers:
I love this site and enjoy reading all compliments and complaints. Since we have all expeienced good and bad I thought I would give a little word advise to allow everyone to have a more fulfilling shopping experience.
Stop shopping big box stores. Unless absolutley necessary. Those companies get richer and bigger because they sell junk at high prices. You don;t get a deal if you have to throw it away after one or two uses. Why would you not pay a little more and have something that you will use and enjoy for along time.
The Walmarts, Ikeas. Future shop, Blockbuster etc now have you trapped because they have forced most small shops out of business and you are brainwashed to believe that you are getting good value. Wake up Canada!!! The Americans have invaded and they are the Body snatchers and we have all become Big Box Zombies. However we are still fortunate to have options and I would like to suggest to all to shop small and at your local stores. Whenever possible. Please!!! To help all small business owners. In the long run it is better for the consumer, better for the community and better for the state of the economy. Small shops give better service they care about their customers, and look after legimate complaints or concerns and they don;t scam you with ridiculous marketing scams. Seek out nice shopping districts... especilly in Toronto... Like Bloor West village. The Danforth. the Beach, Bloor/ Bathurst, Little Italy, Corso Italia If you live in small town be loyal to the old main street shopping area.. such as in Milton, unionville. Brantford... If your business area has declined to to the big box stores.. then help create a BIA, none as business improvement area to revitalize... Your small shop keepers will become your friends if you stay loyal as possible. And whatever happened to "know thy neighbour" If you make one New year's Resolution I simply ask that you patronize one small store for whatever it is you need. You may be surprised at the great service, knowledgable staff, and quailty of the product you bought. " A small Business owner"

Dummy????
I'm not the smoker here so who's the dummy?
I don't remember seeing anything hurtful or calling anyone names in my response. Also the writer said that there should be a roof. Instead of sending all those cigarette butts to me and calling my names why don't you focus all that energy on quitting smoking and then you wouldn't have to worry about walking around on old butts!!!!
Sorry you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Dear Jennifer the person in niagara casino experience complaint refers to the smoking area as a pig stie. and because i have personally been in that area myself. and i have to verify the filthy state of which the area is in. i bet if you went there you would aggree also. as far as the heater is concerned there are two small heaters and my opinion is that there should be at least another 6. as far as the floor is concerned, the same cigarette butts i dropped 2 months ago have yet to be cleaned. there fore don't interfere with things you know nothing about. dummy!! if i had known your address i would pick up all the casino's cigarette butts and dump them on your front yard as a souvenier!!

NIAGARA CASINO EXPERIENCE
by CASINO NIAGARA, NIAGARA FALLS
30-Dec-2007
Once a year I like to visit Niagara Falls. This year I decided to go at Christmas time because of the beautiful Christmas decorations. I must congratulate the City of Niagara Falls for the beautiful display of Christmas lighting.
Since I was there I decided to visit the casino and roll some dice.
I sat down in front of the slot machines and started pushing the buttons which have been changed from coins to electronic - to me it totally stupid,- it has removed the fun from the game which includes losing money.
So I light up my cigarette and continued playing, and losing money. After 15 to 20 minutes and I had already smoked a couple cigarettes an old lady sat down next to me.
She started playing and was having a ball. Only when I lit up another cigarette did she tell me that there was no smoking.
I responded since when. She said for some time now and that there was a smoking area outside if I followed the signs. I did. When I went there I discovered that the so-called SMOKING AREA was pig sty with some partitions made of plywood, with antique ashtrays with a capacity of holding a hundred cigarette butts but was filled with a million cigarette butts. The concrete floor was covered with butts.
Amazingly, there were quite a few people freezing their butts and balls off in way below zero weather, shivering with cigarettes in their hands.
IS THIS ANY WAY TO TREAT HUMAN BEINGS IN THIS CIVILIZED COUNTRY OF CANADA.
AND WHY DOES THE CASINO MANAGEMENT NOT DESIGNATE A FEW PEOPLE TO CLEAN UP THE AREA CONSTANTLY. AFTER ALL EACH AND EVERY CASINO PATRON, SMOKER OR NOT, DESERVES TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT.
I CONDEMN CASINO NIAGARA FOR THE DISRESPECT OF TREATING PATRONS LIKE COMMON CRIMINALS!
WITH PATRONS SPENDING FUN MONEY AT THE CASINO, SHOULD THE CASINO MANAGEMENT NOT PROVIDE A COMFORTABLE, HEATED AND PROPERLY VENTILATED SMOKING AREA - WITH SEATS, WHERE YOU CAN HAVE A COFFEE OR REFRESHMENT AND ENJOY YOURSELF WHILE INDULGING IN HAVING A CIGARETTE.
I ENCOURAGE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENDURED THIS EXPERIENCE OF BEING IN THE PIG STY TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE CASINO MANAGEMENT TO THINK OF ABOUT THIS INSTEAD OF THINKING ABOUT HOW TO STEAL MORE MONEY FROM EVERY PATRON.

KENTUCY FRIED CHICKEN LEFT ME HUNGRY
by HUNGRY MAN, WOODBRIDGE
30-Dec-2007
A couple nights before Christmas, I was hungry so I rushed over my nearest KFC location - southwest corner of Hwy. 7 and Pinevalley. To my surprise, it was not there. It has been relocated to southeast corner of the same intersection.
I went there and they rushed to take my order before closing. They asked how many pieces I needed, I stated 6 pieces. The cook started preparing and I placed the rest the order, macaroni salad, potato salad and a few other things.
As the cashier was making the bill, I produced my credit card and to my surprise, KFC DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS OF ANY KIND!
Imagine in this day and age of debit cards, KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN DOES NOT ACCEPT CARDS OF ANY KIND.
So I told them that I would obtain cash from the next door bank. Which I did as quickly as possible. Upon my return, they were just closing the door, I motioned about my purchase but they did not care. I was furious and hungry.
THANK YOU KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN. YOU HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!

Greyhound Canada Schedule & Fare Information
by Bill Smith, Toronto
04-Dec-2007
To whom it may concern:
I?m writing to advise you that your online fare information in totally pathetic. I've attempted on two separate occasions to request fare information for fares from Toronto to Halifax and have been unable to locate this information on both occasions. As a result, I?ve gone ahead and simply purchased an airline ticket.
Why do you even bother to have a website? In my view, you are truly only doing yourself and your customers a complete disservice. My sincere advice: if you can't provide standard fare information then don't even attempt or pretend that you can.
Sincerely,
Another lost customer

by Irene Ferns, Mississauga
29-Nov-2007
LOBLAWS - a very well-known store advertise 2-day deal of WALNUTS @ 99c a lb for Saturday and Sunday i.e. 24th & 25th Nov. only. I visited one store on Sat. at 10 a.m. to be told "they are sold out" and said they will get more the next day. The next day I went to another store - alas again the same answer - that too at 11.00 a.m. Is this a game they play to bring in customers? There were 2 other customers like me.When I asked the sales person - he just smiled.

TTC fare dispute ends in false accusation of threatening death
by Robert Yerex, Thornhill
07-Oct-2007
Hello FlyerMall
I have just went thru a scary and traumatic experience with the TTC. Now my life is potentially in ruins. I am online searching the for criminal and civil attorney to defend against a false accusation of threatening death by a TTC employee that has ended in criminal charges against me. I want to first defend myself and then I want to sue the TTC and the employee for making false statements to the police.
The TTC employs a collector at the Finch subway station that is intentionally inflicting malicious harm on riders that dare to disagree with her and ask to file a compliant. By accuse them of Threatening Death and Threatening of Bodily Harm. A completely false accusation,
Friday, September 28 2007, I had a fare dispute with a TTC collector. The incident was videoed and witnessed by armed members of TTC Security. Security that was present in her booth and who heard every word of our verbal exchange. I made no threats, but I was verbally abusive. They took no action, Made no attempt to detain me. The collector made no request to have me detained for uttering a threat. I was told by the collector pay the fare or I call the police. I said fine call them. Collector asked me is this a fare dispute? Would you like me to call security and a supervisor. I responded, Yes call your supervisor.
I waited 3 to 5 mins to speak to the supervisor. The supervisor informed me that the collector said that I threatened her. I then pointed to security who were just leaving the booth. They were present during this verbal exchange and took no action to my words. I asked the supervisor what now. The supervisor provided instructions for making a fare dispute. Told me that I have to pay the fare again and file a formal complaint. I paid the fare again with the same collector and entered the station. I informed the collector that I intended to make formal complaint.
Yesterday, Sat Oct 6 2007. I again entered the Finch Subway station, same collector, ask for change, ask her to empty bin, ensured that she saw me place correct amount. Entered the subway. I was apparently followed and pulled of a TTC bus at the corner of Bathurst and Sheppard and arrested for Threatening Death and Threatening of Bodily Harm.
Beware making fare disputes at the Finch Subway Station, It could be life threatening.
Robert.

by Mari Park, London
05-Sep-2007
I have never been to a store where a saleswomen/men are as condescending and disgustingly rude as Hakim Optical at 1690 Richmond St. London. Because I bought my 2 glasses for a 'mere' $400 (it was supposed to be $199 deal without fine print and of course fine print dictates that we pay more money) The first strike is when they say 1 hour service, it takes them days to do whatever is required. When I first bought my 2 glasses, one of the glasses were cut in a way that seeing anything was impossible without constant dizziness. When I brought their attention to that fact, instead of apologizing, their opinion was that 'usually' noone brings up glasses with those kind of problems. The second strike is upon visiting their store, I was encountered by rude and disgusting old man who said, my glasses (one of $400 one with the lens problem also had frame problem, because eventually the frame disfigured itself to the point that wearing it without falling down to tip of my nose was impossible) would take week to change a frame. I called them a week later and they say, 'oh, there has been anything done to your frame.'
I had to put up with that rude man for nothing. Hakim is one disgusting company that I would not recommend it to anyone. I just hope other hakim optical doesn't treat their customer like a shit.

Office Depot Mail-In Rebates to Lower Price a Scam
by robert wayne, Havelock
01-Sep-2007
After reading numerous complaints from consumers in the USA, Office Depot has started the same scam here in Canada. They ask you to mail-in the receipt and filled out form given to you at the time of purchase to a PO Box in Canada. They then ask you to wait 60 to 90 days to no avail. Get to check on a rebate website that keeps saying no such rebate applied for. You call and are told to mail a copy of the submitted receipt and form again to a Resubmit Center in the USA. Wait and Wait. No Luck. Call again and your told to submit by fax now to the Resubmit Center. No one will give you a straight answer or identify themselves or give a reference number when you call. They seem to like taking your info and wasting your time. So don't believe that you will ever get a rebate from Office Depot. Don't shop there. I've mailed in rebates for Home Hardware and Business Depot and never had a problem. So much for consumer relations for the original big box business supply store here in Canada.

Beware to pay unfair price for services in Unionville Motors ( GM )
by Eddie Lee, Scarborough
28-Aug-2007
Usually I'll go to Unionville Motors for oil change and check up every 5000 kilo and 10000 kilo, although it's a little bit higer price than usual ( $ 40.00 in GM and $ 29.95 in other garage ), but if they've checked your car you have to repair or replace some parts, make sure ask for the cost before to say " YES " to do the jobs. My unfortunate experience was replacing the front brake pads in unionville motors cost me $ 350.00 plus tax, but if you do the same job from other garage ( not the dealers ) if only cost $ 175.00 including tax.
So make your right decision in the future !!

***BEWARE of Mississauga Marble Supplier***
by Perry Spencer, Mississauga
06-Aug-2007
I recently purchased marble tiles from The Tile Shoppe in Mississauga ( behind the Silver City ) for what I thought was a "great" price - when the installer began to install them they were crumbling & chipping in his hands. I returned them back to the store and they would not even listen to me, I found them to be quite RUDE and very condescending - I guess you really do get WHAT YOU PAY FOR - so, BUYER beware of this place & their customer service

Tim Hortons Stale Biscuits
by Frank Geistl, Waterloo
05-Jul-2007
Catherine Taylor of Brampton wrote on May 17/07 that she won't stop buying from Tim's even though she got stale biscuits more than once while going thru the drive thru and she bets that she wouldn't get these if she went into store to buy them. She says we use the drive thru because we are in a hurry and who would go back later.
Hate to wake her up but, we use the drive thru because we are lazy. At least 9 out of 10 times I get served faster by going in the store and I make sure I get what I ordered, ie. the right amount of cream in my coffee, not coffee with my cream, fresh food, not stale stuff, etc. Not to mention it is helping the environment.

by Lindsay Bellemare, Brantford
31-May-2007
It would be much better for me and many other friends and people I know of who also happen to be visually impaired or blind if this site would offer a text verson of the flyers. The way it is now it just doesn't work at all with JAWS (a screen reading program) If there was a page were you can access all this information text only it would be awsome. I know I would definatly use it and so would many other people I know!

phone card
by albert lochman, burlington
19-May-2007
I bought a phone card at the Mac's Milk on 3350 Fairview St in Burlington. Between Guelph line and Walker's line across from the Ultramart. I scratched the pin # and dialed the access #. I entered the pin# and got a message that said there were no minutes available on this card.
I went back to the store with a receipt and the lady store clerk refused to give me a refund or a replacement card. This lady also verbally insulted me and told me I was trying a scam trying to redeem a used up phone card. I am a former frequent customer of this store and have noticed this same clerk getting into arguments with customers in the past involving different issues.

ALWAYS FRESH AT TIM HORTONS.
by CATHERINE TAYLOR, Bramton
17-May-2007
This is not a comment but a COMPLAINT I had occasion to go through the drive thru at Kennedy and Steeles (Biscayne drive) in Brampton this a.m. and ordered two cheese tea biscuits. On arriving at my destination one of these biscuits was STALE this is not the first time I have received something that should have been removed from the shelves. ALWAYS FRESH AT TIM HORTONS....not at this store I'm afraid.
Go back? who has that time? that's why we go through the drive thru.....I'm sure they wouldn't serve that inside the store. It won't stop me buying at Tim Hortons but I feel these things should be addressed.

MET CAP LIVING IS PLAING WITH HIS RENTALS!
by Maria Encheva, North York
14-May-2007
Hello, I am past tenant for Met Cap Living in North York. I was living and paying my rent properly every month. I gave the company 60 days notice before I move out and there were no issues from their part. I was overpaid the last month and the company owes me some interest too. The amount they should pay me comes to $104.00 and for this little money they are playing around with me. I have call the company several times, Marc is holding the accounts but he is not wiling to tell me what is the reason to hold my money for months there. His supervisor - Dian, she is not answering the phone either and she is not responsible for nothing too. The receptionist is very nice girl but she is transferring me to voice mail all the time. Obviously Met Cap Living has money problems and they are not willing to pay his debts to his past rentals. I am so disappointed how to collect my money back. Nobody is responsible there and nobody is willing to give me a hand and help me to find the right person who is responsible for this and who can release the check for me! It is not nice for that big company like Met Cap to play with his good tenants! They should keep the name of the Company good! With Respect Maria

Smoking in public places...
by Marie Dell, Toronto
02-May-2007
There has been alot of years where non-smokers had no rights either. We had to accept the fact that if we wanted to eat out in a restaurant we did so having to smell the stench of cigarettes. We all know at one time the dividing line between smoking and non-smoking areas was sometimes a table. Something had to be done about it. I agree smokers rights have changed, because they had to be changed. Where is it fair that I can't even walk into a mall, or a store anywhere without having to still suck up the smoke from cigarettes. I'm not hurting the smoker by walking past them. That's how silly this argument can get about smoking. Wake up about it. Someone trying to justify smoking to me will never happen. I hope someday in the near future it is banned completely from any public areas. It is a well known fact it kills people who smoke and ones who have never had a cigarette in their life. I'm not getting into any enviornment issue or even going to waste my time talking about black smoke puffing out of a bus, idling cars at a hospital, factories polluting the air. All are issues that need to be cleaned up and fixed as well. I am also not not trying to personally pick on the person who made these comments either. There's no comparing smoking to any of it as far as I'm concerned. More then 2000 chemicals make up a cigarette. I come from a family where over half of them are smokers. I am just a person who doesn't want to lose anymore of them to cancer. It is your right to smoke but I also have rights too.

DHL COURIER COMPANY BAD SERVICE
by DISAPPOINTED COSTUMER, Concord
27-Apr-2007
They have sent to me important documents from Bulgaria on 16 Apr 2007. Today is 27 Apr - 11 days later and we still don't have the documents. I have call several times and they give me the run around alone with the stories that the driver delivers to me and I reject it.
This is obviously wrong an excuse on there part.
Finally on my last phone call they admit that the documents are still there and the can't deliver today and they said they will deliver on Monday - 30 Apr 2007. So who knows what excuse will be on Monday. I am very disappointed with there service. And I will never use DHL again.

STOP PICKING ON THE SMOKERS
by daneen williams, brampton
21-Apr-2007
Why do people constantly complain about smokers? Think!! Non-smokers want to complain, complain, complain, about second hand smoke. Now I am not saying it is a great for the health, but do you complain about that bus that is puffing out black ugly smoke in front of you (a million times worse), or when you are sitting in front of the hospital waiting for a pick up and all those idiling cars with there exhausts pumping out toxic fumes?? Or the factory's that are really polluting our earth? LOL I hardly think it is smokers that has ruined the ozone layer. Just a thought to think about before you shake your head at a smoker like they are commiting a huge crime. I find people just want to point the finger at other people, everyone has a crutch, some are drinkers, some use food, some are even drug addicts...etc. My point is ease up a little on the smokers....we have very little rights as it is.....unless you really want to fix the real problems in this world........

Lack of bulk produce like broccoli florets, mushrooms etc.
by Valerie Laakkonen, Thunder Bay
20-Apr-2007
I am tired of not being able to select just how much broccoli or cauliflower I want to buy.Same goes for the number of fresh mushrooms I like to choose.I may just want 6....not a whole package !!!!I can go down the street to a local store & select my own mushrooms, etc. Please don't give me the excuse of it not being healthy picking over the produce when we pick over the other produce ie. peppers, fruit, etc.You really have the client over a barrel...I would call it client abuse.!!! I'm a senior & don't need to buy in great quantities. There is a large senior clientele at the River Street Thunder Bay Store.Let's see what can be done to solve this very simple request. The employees are sympathetic & have no problem with satisfying the customer. Look forward to a positive reply after your next board meeting where I hope this issue will be disgussed.

just stick the Great Value label
by Great Value Brand Unhappy Customer, trenton
01-Mar-2007
An undeclared ingredient on the label, Great Value Brand, of Wal-Mart, made my stomach upset, not due to the fact I am allergic to milk protein, but because, a company as big as Wal-Mart neglected to do their homework and make sure, not 99%, not even 100%, but a million percent sure my safety as a consumer should be priority number one.
No, No, No! Who cares! We have enough money; we have all the money in the world; we have been in the textile business; now we are going into the food business. How much do we know about it: We do not care. We will just stick the Great Value label and those idiots out there will definitely buy it because the label states Great Value.
So let us go ahead and hire someone with a big enough garage to make some Chocolate Cake Mixes, Devil Food Cake Mixes, Fudge Brownie Mixes and some Yellow Cake Mixes. However, we have to make it cheap enough that those silly immigrants will come to our stores in droves and buy them. And why the government does not check these products before they arrive on the shelves. Is this because Wal-Mart is a huge organization and apparently owns the government.
I checked the governments website about allergies and symptoms only to find out the following information that:
When someone comes in contact with an allergen, the symptoms of a reaction may develop without warning, may be delayed, may happen as two episodes (biphasic) or may develop quickly then rapidly progress from mild to severe. The most dangerous symptoms include breathing difficulties, a drop in blood pressure or shock, which may result in loss of consciousness and even death.
To me according to this statement I do not even have to eat or consume the product. All I have to do is to come in contact with it. The word contact means physically touching an object. Imagine, only coming into contact can cause death.
Do we need to have an allergy test before buying Great Value Brand products.
If you agree or disagree with my complaint about Great Value Brand products, voice your opinion here on this site which allows us to.

Rebate Rip Off
by Joe Jetson, Toronto
16-Feb-2007
I bought a HP printer at Future Shop for $100. with a $50 mail in rebate.
6 months later I get a postcard saying that I didn't send in the upc bar code, and therefor no rebate.
I know I sent everything in. I had got many other rebates from other stores over the years.
This incident has completely turned me off mail in rebates from anyone and I never shop at Future Shop anymore. The way I see it, if a store or company wants to give you a rebate, do it at the checkout, instantly.
The reason they want to do mail in rebate, is they are hoping you will forget to mail it in, meanwhile they've sucked you into buying the product with the fake lower price. What a scam.

Walmart ShouldTrain Pharmacy Staff in Customer Relation-At Rexdale Sto
by Concerned Walmart Shopper, Rexdale
10-Feb-2007
On Friday 09 th Feb 2007 as a regular customer, I Compalined to the Pharmacist at the Walmart Rexdale Store Islington Ave .Toronto- Canada concerning problems of prescription processing, being experienced on a constant basis.Instead of attempting to at least explain why I was experiencing such problems, I was spoken to in a agressive vexacious tone and was told " If you don't like it here you can go somewhere else."
That to me was really ignorant AND RUDE coming from a pharmacist Rather than trying to resolve an issue, his comments were unwarranted and inciting confrontation with a regular customer.
THIS PHARMACIST IS IN DIRE NEED OF CUSTOMER SERVICE SATISFACTION ORIENTATION .
NEEDS TO CONTROL HIS EMOTION RATHER THAN BEING
CONFRONTATIONAL .
ALL WALMART CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE TREATED WITH COURTISY IRREGARDLEESS OF THEIR ETHNIC BACKGROUND OR ORIENTATION.
A Dis satisfied Customer

BABIES R US MISSISSAUGA LOCATION/BABY REGISTRY SUCKS
by Jen P, Milton
10-Feb-2007
If you can choose somewhere else to register for your baby shower then I would advise you do.
1st complaint is the Mississauga location. The customer service absoulutely sucks. No one knows what they are doing there. I tried returning something and no one knew how to give me my refund. I had to wait for about an hour (until the manager arrived) to get anything done. There are about 5 cashiers working at one time that don't know what they are doing.
2nd complaint - the baby registry system sucks. Many times I have purchased items from registries (giving the cashier the registry no.) and they fail to show up as being purchased. Or doubles and triples of items are purchased.

MAPLE I.D.A (Maple Avenue and Maple Crossing Blvd.) BURLINGTON
by A Johnston, Burlington
04-Feb-2007
I USED to like this Pharmacy, but not anymore
When a flyer comes out, the items in the flyer ARE NEVER IN-STORE
AND if they are, they tend to HIDE these items so that you dont see them
NO hello's when you walk in the store, instead they EYE you and follow you, to make sure you aren't shop-lifting
The store has no PULSE, no music, no atmosphere and again staff doesnt acknowledge you, except with a stern glare
The greeting card selection is good, but when asked if they would be getting more Valentine's Day Cards (they have up only 2 rows at the moment) the Cashier stated a blunt "NO!"
Their prices are ridiculous
Used to be the corner-store-pharmacy was a place where everyone said HELLO and knew your name, instead now the mean look is the IN THING......
GET a grip employees of this store, we as customers come in and pay for things and if we didnt YOU would not have a job
Try to be nice, say a simple Hello and quit looking at me like you just saw me on the latest CrimeStoppers bulletin
-VERY disappointed with the IDA:(

Enter you PIN number - watch the bank profit
by John Doe, Anytown
09-Dec-2006
Congratulations to the TD/Canada Trust for doubling their profits from 2 billion to over 4 billion dollars.
How wonderful for them.
As an individual I am very angry at what has happened to the "customer". Forgive me for not having thousands or millions of dollars in my bank account.
I am a hard working individual taxed to the max. Everything at the bank is now automated, I am a number only. Being encouraged to use banking machines - I deposit my cheque and have to wait 4 - 6 working days before I can access my money. Should I go to the bank directly I have to pay in excess of $6.00 to have a "banking representative" serve me. This is in addition to the monthly service fee on my account.. on top on the $1.50 fee for using automated banking machines.
It is necessary to have an account at the bank to have a money order made up even though I am standing in front of the representative with cash in hand.
Try to set up an account - I have to make an appointment.... no one is available when I have the time.
Why do I have to wait, pay ridiculous fees, receive minimal interest on my account - when after all it is my money that they are investing.
What is customer service .... being taxed to the max - waiting for money I worked all week to earn, only to have it dwindle right before my eyes with excessive "bank fees".
Once again, congratualations for your profit.... I know I helped you achieve it.

FLYER deals not honoured even on first day
by Irene Fernandes, Mississauga
02-Dec-2006
A week back WAL-MART advertised the toy FURBY on their flyer for under $10. I visited the store ON THE VERY SAME DAY i.e. Friday, only to to be told that no more were available and they would not have any more coming. This is not the first time this has happened - some weeks back also they had advertised for Charmin bath tissue and the item was not available - this has happened more than on these occasions. I am an old person and it was frustrating and was most disappointed at this. How can they not have enough even to last the first day! If they do not have adequate stocks, they should refrain from advertising the products. I hope their Headquarters - which I think are in the US will take a note of this. There are few stores that do this too.

WHY ARE FUNERAL HOMES PROMINENT IN CHURCH
by Maria Larosa, Toronto
02-Dec-2006
Being new to the neighbourhood I decided to visit the local church to determine the dates and times of daily mass.
In the entrance were various pamphlets regarding various issues and yes, the new 2007 calendar. But to my surprise on the bottom of the complimentary calendar was the name of the sponsor ..... XYZ Funeral Home Ltd. ....
We are all aware of the fact that we are going to pass on someday. But why, why, why, should a funeral home be visible in anyone's household 365 days a year on a religous calendar?

To "Sick To my stomach, Mississauga"
by Sickened by Smoking Ottawa, Ottawa
22-Nov-2006
Yes, smokers are people too - but that doesn't give them the right to poison other people. Before you make statements like the one you did, do your research about second hand smoke ...even very short exposure can have major ill-effects on people. It's been proven that there is NO ventilation system capable of removing ALL second hand smoke from the air. I think it's terrible that you think it's okay to expose staff, other visitors, patients, etc.! Every time the door to the smoking room opens, second hand smoke will escape and get into the air and lungs of other people! It makes me sick to my stomach that you think that is okay! It IS sad to see cancer patients sitting in the rain sucking on their death sticks.. why encourage that?!

cost of popcorn and a coke at the movies
by Amanda Smith, Toronto West
21-Nov-2006
Last weekend I went to the cinema to watch the new Bond movie that had recently been released. I bought the ticket worth around $12 and later i realised i was abit hungry so i felt i needed something to eat and decided to buy a small popcorn and a small coke. The cost of the small drink and popcorn was around $10. i was told if i wanted butter on it then it would cost me 75 cents more!i was shocked! i mean this is absurd! a small popcorn and a small drink is almost the same price as the cost of a movie ticket! since when did a small glass of coke begin to cost almost $5! and aren't there enough corn left in the whole of canada that i had to pay $5 for a half handful of corn that needed to be popped by an individual with minimum knowledge!i honestly i don't know what to think of this!

The Good Old Days
by Ole Timer, London
28-Oct-2006
I remember not too long ago when we used to pull into the gas station, winter, spring, summer or fall, and a person in cover-alls came up to the driver's window and asked "What can I do for you today!" Upon responding, "Fill 'er up!"(for example), the attendant proceeded to fill up the gas tank, wash the windshield, checked the oils, belts, tires, etc. Where are these service stations today?
Should you ever encounter such a service station, make sure you support it and thank the attendant and show your appreciation with a small tip.
These stations were at once time a source of income for our young people.

Sickening, sickening, sickening
by Sick To my stomach, Mississauga
28-Oct-2006
I always felt confident and happy living in Canada with all its freedoms. We are all human beings (I hope) and many of us have vices. Some of us gamble, some of us over-indulge in many things and some of us smoke. To some people, smoking is bad, to smokers it is part of their life. I just hope smokers do not end up in the hospital for any reason. I visited a friend at the Mississauga Hospital and I witnessed at the entrance quite a few patients, some in wheelchairs, some with intravenous equipment smoking outside in the rain. This disturbed me. Why is there not a properly equipped smoking room at hospitals to accommodate both patients and visitors? People who go to the hospital go there to visit a friend and frequently stay for hours at a time. They should be able to have a room to smoke.
Regardless of anyone's personal opinion or bias, smokers are people too and they have rights just as everyone else.

POSITIVE RESULTS FROM THERAPY
by happy patient, North York
26-Oct-2006
This is my personal thank you to the Yonge-Spruce Chiropractic Health Centre.
I awoke one morning to find that I was not able to move my leg. There was a tremendous pain from my mid-calf to just above the bum area. The pain became unbearable and I was unable to walk. Since I did not know how to handle this situation, I called a couple friends and one of them took me to the above clinic.
After two weeks of daily therapy, I am finally able to at least walk with the help of a cane.
I am extremely happy with the results of my therapy so far.
Thank you to the staff of this clinic.

by clyde gonzalez, toronto

This is to reply to Linda Morgan, its unfournate that you couldn't find etnic foods at your local wal-mart, but it just goes to show what wal-mart is all about in the food business. Lack of variety of foods in food section
by Linda Morgan, Woodbridge
20-Oct-2006
I was just reading an article in the October 17, 2006 Toronto Star regarding Wal-Mart and the ethnic food demand. I certainly agree that it is necessary. However when I visited the store at Jane and Highway 7, I found that there was literally no ethnic selection available at all. It is far from the printed reality. I will definitely not return to that store for my food product selection.
And as far as No Frills or Loblaws complaint of loosing money. The reality is their lack of ethnic foods is the biggest deterent to their profitability. As a consumer, I like having a wide selection of products at my disposal. I find that the limited selection of ethnic variety contribute to loss of consumers.
Today's consumers are adventurous, with the internet and international food gourmet dishes, stores should realise that the limited private brand selection which some of them carry is insuffucient for the new generation.
I have found that the Chinese stores carry everything I need at very reasonable prices.

Dominion Was Good at One Time
by Amanda Vieira, Mississauga
05-Oct-2006
Frustrated! That's why I'm writing this here. I regularly shop at the Dominion store in Westdale Mall in Mississauga.
But for the longest time their Customer Service no longer exists. Managers ignoring requests for items asked by many people(too many to list).
And though some staff are friendly and knowledgeable the majority of their staff are very rude and have not been trained properly. Unable to answer simple questions.
And the lines at the cash registers are long yet every time I shop I see them hiring new people. It seems as if this place is too cheap to schedule those cashiers so we customers don't have to wait long in line.If they're not going to schedule people why hire them? Don't we customers count for something?
I'm a loyal person but am very seriously considering switching grocery chains if the management and employees at Dominion's Westdale Mall don't smarten up.
Anyone else have problems with this location?

So glad I found this site
by Wendy S, Toronto
03-Oct-2006
I just wanted to say how happy I am to have found this site. I live in a highrise and they obviously don't deliver enough flyer bags to our complex because if you're late in noticing that the flyers have been delivered (they're dumped in the mailroom) then you're outta luck. I see some neighbours walking away with 3 or 4 bags...what exactly are they doing with all those flyers I wonder???
Thanks to this site I no longer have to make a mad dash to the mailroom and curse out my neighbours. Thank you!

Road Repairs
by Ian Roberts, Toronto
02-Oct-2006
Having spent only 3 winters in Canada, I have noticed something interesting about road repairing activities.I live in downtown Toronto and all summer there are hardly any road repairs going on in Downtown Toronto. Then as soon as fall begins , i see almost every where road blocks for repairs! This causes long delays while driving and the weather is n't very pleasant either! The combination of the two makes life alittle difficult early in the morning when i am going to work.Am I the only one noticing and experiencing this?

Traffic Lights
by Sandra Smith, Toronto
22-Sep-2006
Yesterday evening as I was driving along Bloor St. East near the Greek Town , I came across a traffic light that was extremely confusing! The signals were very confusing. There were 4 traffic signals facing me ( 2 on the left side of the road and 2 on the right side of the road) and the one on the left side had RED signal while the one my right had GREEN signal. At first glance I was so sure that I had to STOP my car because of the red signal then as I came abit closer I saw small arrows (pointing to the RIGHT side of the road)beneath the GREEN signal which means the GREEN was the people on the RIGHT hand side of the road! I fail to understand why the traffic signals are placed like that! I am sure many drivers must have caused accidents at that spot!

Gasoline Prices - Rainy weekend causes prices to drop
by Justin Shepherd, Toronto
02-Sep-2006
The Carpenters song "Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down" come to mind as I write this:
Thank God for this rainy weekend, the final weekend of this short summer. Yes, Thank you Lord for the weather. As a consequence instead of over-inflated gasoline prices - I have just filled up my gas tank for an incredile price of 77.6 cents a litre which I have not seen for a long time now. With the money I saved, I will be able to purchase all the additonal back to school items that were previously over my budget limit.
I am a student.

Pollution
by Sandra Donsky, Toronto
15-Aug-2006
I live near Bloor & Landsdowne.Every morning I wake up and open my window inorder to take a deep breath of fresh air. I always get disapointed since there is a strong smell, as if I am standing inside a garbage truck! The stench is so horrible that it is unbearable!Earlier days this smell was not very frequent but this summer it is every single day that I have to put up with that horrible smell!Apparently the stench comes from a factory that produces gelatin for medicinal purpose! Their rawmaterial is pig lard/fat.One of the processes involved is that the pig lard has to be boiled in large boilers and as a result there is a strong stench! Can something be done about this problem! why don't the factory relocate itself elsewhere?

Paper flyers and fire ban
by R M, Dryden
15-Aug-2006
Living in a rural area, 10km from pay per bag dump, flyers are often incinerated in a home barrel. A lengthy fire ban meant leaving flyers at the post office, unread. Now we can read the flyers on-line and prepare our shopping lists. Thank you to those retailers who have joined the Flyer Mall.

MOVIE LOVER
by Movie Lover, Sarnia
12-Jul-2006
I am an avid movie lover and enjoy watching movies on television. However, once the film is finished and I am expecting to view the list of credits to make a note of the individuals who have spent their time and effort in producing, directing, editing, whatever the film, it is suddenly moved to the side of screen and unless you have taken a course in speed reading, you are unable to read the list of crediits.
I find this very frustrating. Is there something that can be done by law with respect to this? Does the network airing the film not have a sense of responsibility to allow the viewer the pleasure of reading the credits?

DANFORTH PATIO LOVER
by Danforth Patio Lover, Toronto
12-Jul-2006
I enjoy having my dinner on the outdoor patios on the Danforth. There are many, many restaurants to choose so I have a different dining experinence each time.
However, at about 9:00 p.m. I am confronted with the stink of the Garbage truck making its pick-up.
Is it necessary for them to do this at this time of the night - in the middle of the dinner hour? Can this pick up not be done around 1:00 a.m. when the restuarants are finally closed?

WHY DO THEY NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS ENOUGH OF THE ITEMS TO SUPPLY THE DEMAND.

That's Life
by Rob Misek, Whitby
07-Jun-2006
I appreciate your sentiment, but feel little sympathy. You don't need to read what you don't want to.
These are very troubling times, when knowledge, logic and argument take the backseat to political correctness.
I have relayed an important message to another group of people. In that I have been successful. Some will benefit, others won't - that's life.
If more people stand up for their beliefs, even when politically incorrect, Canada (and your supermarket) will be a better place.

Windows Installation - Installation Department Home Depot
by P Mrs., Oshawa
30-May-2006
Got windows installed through Home Depot and it was a complete disaster. The installer did a butched job and right now 2 of my new windows are worse than the old ones. When I called Home Depot to report it and demand that the casing of the windows be redone, the bowed screen fixed, caulking done and fix the piece of aluminum siding now hanging down... I got no sympaty from the installation department... I requested that the installer send someone else to fix the guy's (windows intaller) mess... well to my surprise I was told that the same guy will have to come back to fix all the mess. I requested that someone from Home Depot come and have a look at the job.... again refusal, I asked that someone from Home Depot be present when the windows guy comes back and again No. After thinking about the sillyness of Home Depot's procedures of sending back the same guy... actually it is even worse I was told that it was the company the installer is working for policy to send the same guy to give him "a chance" to do it right the SECOND Time. So, after thinking about how stupid sending the same guy was, I tried to call the installation department again ..... no luck there.. I tried to call the sales rep. that sold me the windows... well he was no where to be found either (left 3 messages). So Home Depot refused to hear my complaints and is sending the same unqualified guy to fixed the butched job. I am so discusted with Home Depot. I am redoing my kitchen this summer and guess what Home Depot will not have my business!! not a chance in hell will I deal with a company that support their installer instead of their customers.... who the heck is paying who here!!!! ME paying Home Depot AND the Installer.....

Giant Carpet Sucks
by Howard Morgenstern, Thornhill
08-May-2006
I have no record of the transaction or the work order.
They never called to confirm when they were coming to install. They came at 11:30 (left at 6:30).
They did not bring the nosing or the t-molding, which we paid for and needed (floor is not flush with the bathroom entrances)
They did not install baseboards, which was in the work order
They did not notify us when they would return to finish the work
One box was the wrong product and could not finish the floor (installers knew before that 1 box was incorrect and did not notify us)
We asked the installers to start with the kids room, that was the room that was left unfinished.
The product (red oak, engineered hardward from shaw)has 4 different colors, looks like a checkerboard. The
product was not installed within 7 days of purchase, as per website.
Some of the installed boards are damaged, (kids room) and there are some staple bumps.
As a result our house is upside down, kids have been sleeping in the living room, all our clothes are
in bags.

smoking and the government
by ashley BARTENDER, THornhill
22-Apr-2006
I just wanted to make a quick comment into the NON-SMOKING laws.
I work at a bar in Thornhill Ontario. Now 5 Years ago the government asked Bar/Restaurants to make a decision into wether they wanted to be considered a restaurant and allow NO smoking what so ever or a Bar and allow 25% smoking in designated areas but the drawback was 1. NO patrons under the age 18 and 2. where to designate the 25% allowance of smoking and 3. a $1500 charge to register it as a "SMOKING BAR."
Then the complete NO SMOKING law came in. We were given a notice that gave us time and ideas to no have the business be hurt by the law. They offered 1. get an outdoor patio. 2. Become a private club (which is near impossible, too much redtape) or 3. get a well ventilated smoking room.
Most people vied for the smoking room. They cost in average of $30,000 but bar owners did not want to lose business with the impending law and the no hockey year. There was never a time limit or use to the smoking rooms ever given. It seemed like just a great option. And the approval from the government cost $1500 again.
Well a little less than 2 years have passed since the non smoking laws came into affect and those smaller Bars who could not afford the Smoking rooms have closed down. A statistic showed 43% of bars went out of business in 2005. Wether it was due to hockey and or smoking I can't be clear enough to make that call, but primarily I believe it to be the smoking law.
Well now come May 31st 2006 the Government has outlawed smoking rooms. And all the Bars who spent hard earned money to make one are no renedered USELESS. I think this is HORRIBLE how the goverment gives the ideas just to take them away 10's of thousands of dollars later.
A quicker note. A bar right across the street from mine did not make a smoking room, and in the 2 years have recieved about $3500 in smoking fines for allowing smoking the whole time while mine spent the $45,000 in making a well ventilated smoking room that is gone in 2 months.
HOW IS THAT FAIR?
I myself am not a smoker but can make a choice between working in a slow dead non smoking bar or a busy smoking one. I dont think I need the government to make that decision for me.
SOON TO BE BROKE BARTENDER!!!!

It has to do with Freedoms and Standards
by Rob Misek, Whitby
04-Apr-2006
Real freedoms and priveledges are hard won and easily lost.
Some people readily sacrifice their freedoms and priviledges because they never had to work or die for them. Other peoples freedoms are even easier to sacrifice.
As a culture we have already sacrificed may of our moral standards to the point that morality is politically incorrect.
When we sacrifice each others freedoms, priveledges and standards we undermine the basic values of our society.
No society can exist in this environment.
This is our slippery slope - subscribing to the policy that things should just be banned if we don't like them, regardless of any personal standards or responsibilities.
How do you feel about red meat, alcohol, fast food, cooking with oil, homosexuality, driving your own personal vehicle, living in a nice big energy consuming house or making copious amounts of money in the stock market.
All of these things may be bad for you or others, but they are also our freedoms. Will you sacrifice them all?
Perhaps you would be happier living in a communist or facist state. I suggest you try it yourself before imposing it on the rest of us. Let me know how it works out for you.
Don't presume you know what makes me or anyone else for that matter happy.

Bell Moblitily is DISHONEST and takes advantage of its clients
by Sheri Johnston, Whitby
27-Mar-2006
Last summer I called Bell Mobility to complain my cell phone bill is too high and inquired about switching to a 10-4 phone to cut down on long distance costs. The Bell Representative told me I was not eligible for an upgrade to a 10-4 phone. He instead told me that there was a promotion that I could buy two 10-4 phones for $150 and have unlimited long distance and local calling for six months, which would save me enough to cancel my other phone line. After I received my phones they cancelled my promotion saying that months payment was not received by the 15th as I had paid it by internet it sometimes takes several days to go through. In the mean time I have been stuck with three cell phones to pay for, no promotions and a cancellation cost of $700 to get rid of these three phones, which they never told me about nor said i was on a three year contract. And yes i know I should've read the contract better when i signed it but they should've told me the main details. On top of which I cannot even get a package where I do not even use any of the phone for less than $ 150 per month. Do not ever use Bell Mobility, their agents are dishonest, lie and screw you out of money....

Great Furniture Store
by Tania Russell, Oshawa
23-Mar-2006
I read your complaint about the Brick...here's a store I discovered just in time before making my purchases. It's called Furniture Direct in the Pickering Marketplace on Brock Road (you can see it from the 401). I happened to go in and look one day and they had 1/2 off everything in the store. So, I ordered all the furniture I needed plus more cause it was such a great deal. All the furniture is made by Ashley and the full prices are the same as everywhere else. I did have a problem with my sectional and the customer service was great...they just ordered me a whole new sectional, no questions asked. The nice thing is that they have this 1/2 price sale quite often. So, check them out and if you like what they have then tell them to call you when they have their 1/2 off sale again if you can wait it's worth it. My sale person was Gina and she was so patient and kind with me...so ask for her.
I just love passing on great deals!!!!

Smoking??
by John Smith, Barrie
22-Mar-2006
Hey Rob,
Lets be honest about your comments. You say that you enjoy a good cigar and scotch, and as a Canadian that is your right and privilage. You say it makes you happy and thats good for you. Now that statement is far from being accurate. If you can show me one clinical study that shows me that smoking is "good for you" then I will gladly retract my statement. You say that it makes you happy and that too would be inaccurate. I am willing to bet that your body and you would be much happier if you quit. I understand the argument that its difficult and not easily accomplished, however with the aides that are currently available on the market today its getting easier and easier to do. I think you need to look in the mirror and realize that its not that you enjoy it.. its that you need it. Give it a shot buddy, its well worth the try.
As far as being oppressed as a smoker, I can tell you this. I am 40 years old and have never smoked. For the longest time I had to suffer the smoke and stench of smokers, but at least by not smoking I was not endangering your life whereas you were/are endangering mine. I guess you can say turn about is fair play, but at the very least accept that the new laws are there to help you become healthier, and in turn happier. Your comments indicate intelligence, so quit smoking and prove it!
Good luck!

You cannot argue with these facts because they're true. Instead you tell me how you enjoy a good cigar and drink. WHAT?????
I believe smoking and drinking affect the brain cells also!
I'm done here!

by JAMES BROCK, MONTREAL

THE JEWISH GENERAL HOSPITAL OF MONTREAL HAS THE FILTHIEST ENTRANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE - IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A GARBAGE DUMP AREA RATHER THAN A HOSPITAL - FULL OF GARBAGE, ALL GARBAGGE DISPOSING CANS ARE FULL TO THE RIM AND NEVER EMPTIED ETC.
SHAME TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE HOSPITAL ! I WONDER IF HE WOULD ALLOW HIS OFFICE TO BE THE SAME AS THE ENTRANCE !
I HOPE THE CITY CAN TAKE SOME ACTION ON THIS AS NOBODY SEEMS TO CARE !

It has to do with Freedoms and Standards
by Rob Misek, Whitby
14-Mar-2006
I enjoy the smell of a good cigar. Having one with some scotch is one of my favorite things to do. It makes me happy. This is good for me.
The long term solution for our planet will not result from knee-jerk reactions to insignificant problems.
In Canada we have enjoyed many freedoms - priveledges. To keep these we need to follow some rules - standards.
In our recent history we have learned to live without moral standards. I blame the liberals and feminists.
To keep our society without standards from immediately destroying itself, freedoms and priveledges must be sacrificed. This is a slippery slope and we're on it.
I prefer to live in a society with standards and freedoms for those willing to follow the rules.
It seems like a fair standard/rule to me to allow smoking inside establishments where entry is optional or where a standard for air quality is maintained.

Back at ya Rob
by Tania Russell, Oshawa
09-Mar-2006
Okay Rob....think about what you're saying here! You don't see the same people concerned about emissions. Why the heck do you think the government had to come out with the emission law on cars. Because, ignorant people who drive cars that are not maintained or too old to be on the road were emitting harmful to our health pollutants into the air.(Do you enjoy driving behind a car that is smoking blue with your windows down or aircon on and breathing that stench in? I don't.)And that is what was causing breakdown of our ozone layer that keeps us alive...sooooo...the same goes for the smoking law...if it's causing harm to our health, our planet, our healthcare system, etc....etc....etc...then the government has to step up because the rest of society is just too selfish to think about these effects as a whole and stop the problem themselves. They think that how can I as one person cause a problem? Put one and one and one together and keep adding....big problems. The sad thing is that people who want to make a difference in society and for our future generation don't speak up enough...if they did, our earth and atmosphere wouldn't be in such dire need of repair as it is today. Put your strong voices to some other cause that could make a positive difference for our future (in cleaning up the earth) instead of complaining about your lack of rights where smoking in concerned.
One more question...name one, just one positive thing about smoking...positive to yourself and others around you.
I await your reply.....

Smoking is Politically Incorrect
by Rob Misek, Whitby
07-Mar-2006
Some people don't like smoking, so they weight the consequences and decide to lobby against it. Other non-smokers realize they have little to lose so they join the rally. Add some questionable science and say goodbye to the rights of smokers. Another fine example of political correctness in action.
I don't see the same people as concerned about vehicle emissions or industrial pollution because we like our cars and jobs. Pure selfish hypocrisy.
Try this on for size. Eating in a restaurant is a priviledge. So if the restaurant owner wants to create a comfortable environment for smokers - YOU DON'T NEED TO EAT THERE.

To the Smokers...
by Rovena Ashiku, Ajax
07-Mar-2006
I would love to sympathize with your smoking craze, but really, I can't! I have three words for you: "Second Hand Smoking", which is the main reason why you have to step outside and harm yourselves without harming the non-smokers. I used to hate it breathing all the smoke in public areas, and my clothes and hair stinked every night, I couldn't sleep. On a regular day, a smoker can go from 5 to 50 cigarettes a day, it's their choice. But a non-smoker, being in smoking environments, can actually inhale 50 cigarettes in an hour, putting together all those lighting up. The government is trying to protect us with the non-smoking law, and of course they're trying to save valuable health care money. All this for a vicious habit, that hurts everybody, including yourselves. Think better...

IKEA Beds might be cheap, but their quality is 0!
by Nora Kaltani, Scarborough
07-Mar-2006
You know that great feeling when you look allover for a bed and it's expensive everywhere and finally IKEA has it for a cheaper price? Sure, the design is no show stopper, but at least it looks nice and you won't have to sleep on the floor anymore. Plus you choose a nice white color and when you carry it home it's really heavy so this means it can hold for a long time and you can "sleep easy" on the bed issue for a few years. Well, wake up, because IKEA beds suck! I bought one last year, with the table that goes on top, and the table was the first one to go. Sliding it back-and-forth it started cricking and then it became loose and I stopped using it. One year! And last night, my cat jumped on the bed and I hear a cricking sound again and before you know it the mattress was on the floor with a loud noise! Mind you, only the cat was on the bed! After examining closely, I saw that the so called "wood bed" was really made of compressed wood and the screws had digged into their holes which at some point couldn't hold anymore and fell out. I quickly uncovered the table now stacked somewhere in the basement, and discovered the reason it was loose was exactly that: holes were becoming bigger as the screws kept digging in the compressed wood. One year! That's how much IKEA quality lasts! So much for their Swedish names for every product, makes you feel like you're buying smth special! And so much for their promotions all-over the place, when most their shoppers are students or young people moving out of their family house! Who are you steeling from? Us? We pay tuition Mr. IKEA! Shame on you!

To Smoking/Non Smoking Society....
by Mathew Chandler, Windsor
06-Mar-2006
I general, I agree with your opinions, but I think that you have to look at the total picture and not just your perspective....
I definitely agree that owners should have the right to decide whether their establishment is smoking or non-smoking and just make it clear to the customer what the rule is..... in the abstract. However, the issue that I see the government struggling with is one of labour law. Owner decides and the customer decides..... but what of the employee? Their choice might come down to 'work in a smoking environment or don't work'. It is easy to say that 'if they don't want to work in a smoking environment, they can quit', but that is not practical (or legal). So what then? An owner who wants to keep a smoking establishment has to pay an employee who does not want to work in the smoke until they get another job.....? That does not make sense either. Labour law says that employers have to make reasonable provisions for employee safety. And that is not possible if the employee does not have a say. And if you want to go back to the no one is forcing you to work there argument, the same argument could be made for smokers. Don't want to stand in the cold, then don't.... it is your choice. Don't like it, then quit. And the last dozen times that I went into Timmy's or McDonald's, there was not a seat to be found, so I would say that they are doing just fine. (Better actually, their health care insurance costs will be less).
As for hospitals.... your argument is almost funny. Any cancer patient outside smoking is wasting valuable time and resources. IF the only thing they have to deal with to smoke is the cold, then I can live with that, though I doubt that they will be able to. Stick to restaurants and accept the consequences of your decisions. Don't like cold coffee, then don't smoke. Decide which is more important. Or come up with a reasonable plan so that all parties have their rightful say and alternatives when not everyone agrees.

Reply to Heavy Smoker
by Tania Russell, Oshawa
06-Mar-2006
Okay buddy, i don't know quite where to begin with you! Main point here...smoking kills! Whether you smoke or not it kills. When smoking was legal in restaurants, I would ask to sit in non and often be seated right beside the smoking section. There was always this invisible line from one table to the next that they thought the smoke would not cross...so this left me as a non-smoker to either eat and breathe this in or ask to be moved or leave the restaurant. How is this fair to me? I agree with you that it is your business if you would like to smoke but it is just plain ignorant when smokers don't have consideration for non's or children or adults with asthma. So, in the past where smoking in public places was allowed, it was the non-smokers who suffered and had no rights because smoke moves, it knows no bounderies and many smokers just don't care. So, again, we had no rights for decades and decades (well as long as I have been around for 35 years). If you quit smoking (as my husband did) you would then realize the problem it creates (as he did also) being a non-smoker and now being able to smell what it is really like. It really poses a problem when we go somewhere (especially family members homes that smoke) and our two young children are asthmatic. What do you do?...it is not their fault...do we stay home and not see them? Some will not smoke around the kids because they know, but some just don't care and those we are forced to stay away from. Smoking in our society has costs taxpayers and government so much money in healthcare costs that could be going to people that need it for other health issues not brought on by themselves.
I hope that this has enlightened you a bit because you seem so bitter about this topic. Hey, quit smoking, take up something else to occupy your time instead and see how wonderful life can be without the smokes and maybe live a bit longer to enjoy what life has got to give.

Smokers & Non Smokers
by Brenda Murphy, Toronto
06-Mar-2006
I myself am currently new to the non smoking world. I quit smoking 5 months ago after smoking for most of my 40 years here. I have to agree that being a smoker sure has it's limits. You have no say or rights what so ever, and the cost is pathetic. So for all you smokers...going out to have a puff...consider quitting. You'll feel better, and you'll definately smell better to others, and think of all the Money you'll save. However, if you wish to contine to smoke, I hope they ease up on a few rules & regulations. It's not fair to those who do smoke.

Non-smoking society
by Non Smoker, ilderton
06-Mar-2006
Smoking is not a right it's a privilege. It is not a right to give a waitress lung cancer, nor is it a right for cigarette smokers to pollute the air in Tim Hortons so you can't even eat the donuts or sandwiches without thinking you are eating an ashtray. I sometimes see parents smoking in their car with a child in the back seat and it makes me angry. Angry that their child doesn't have anyone to look out for their health. I know too many children of smokers who are asthmatic and they blame it on allergies-it's the CIGARETTES!! The government won't let the restaurant owners have the choice to be smoking or non smoking because the restaurant owner is going to do what is better for himself and for business and not care about his staff(waitresses, chefs, bartenders and dishwashers)or non-smoking patrons who choose to have self control not to smoke. The government has had to make these laws because we live in such a selfish society and people can't think rationally about their disgusting habits and think about other people and how they are harming them. It's not just that cigarette smoke smells disgusting on anything it touches-IT KILLS PEOPLE!!! If smokers want to rally to have smoking establishments where the restaurant owner wants smoking and all the staff and patrons agree and sign a waiver of rights if they get lung cancer from working or patronizing more power to you!! Then all you smokers can stink together and eat disgusting smoky food and be happy:)

Can't Stand Political Correctness
by Rob Misek, Whitby
06-Mar-2006
I can't stand political correctness.
People need to stand up for what they TRULY believe in.
If they want to play devils advocate on a particular issue - there are plenty of vacancies in hell.
There is only one truth. We all need to share it.
Thanks to this board for having the vision to request its customers to share their varied opinions and beliefs.
P.S. If people were denied medical attention for every self-inflicted injury/disease as is being suggested with smoking, we wouldn't have any health care problems - because we wouldn't have health care.

Staples what Jun???
by John Henry, New Liskeard
06-Mar-2006
I had went into the north bat location and purchase a PC for my daughter which needs one for her school work so after talking to the sales rep, they stated that I would need a some what powerful Pc as the child would require Internet.
so $2100 later I get this pc home and find out that it does not even have the software installed on it, and when I called them to ask why they told that it would cost me another $50 per program (just for installation).
So I had done some searching and I found a person that provided with all the answers that I needed and set up my PC with more then enough software, and only charged me $50 total. this person has just started a web/graphic design company and I will tell you if I ever need anything done or know of anyone thats requires something done, well he will be the one I call or check out online: very very helpful and fast. he had provided me with a Business card check it out for yourself at www.jlgraphx.ca
his name was Louie
Never never will go back to staples

Smoking - Non-smoking society
by HEAVY SMOKER, TORONTO
05-Mar-2006
A few years ago the non smoking law was imposed in restaurants during the month of July when there were open patios all over the place so the effect went by unnoticed. When the winter months came, the poor smoker started to exit restaurants to smoke outside in the cold, - 30 degrees, literally freezing their balls off. No wonder men smoking in the cold have their legs open, with that stupid look on their faces.
Then they introduced "smoking areas" with the appropriate ventilation, etc. Now the rumor is that within the next few months this will also be removed. There will be no smoking whatsoever. Why does the government not ask the restuarant owner if he wants to be considered smoking or non smoking so that the owner could choose his own destiny instead of having no smoking whatsoever and no business in quite a few of them.
After all smokers are people too and there are more smokers in this country than non smokers. And why in bars where people like to have a coffee or a drink with their cigarettes are they not allowed this pleasure.
Recently, I noticed that Tim Horton's, the McDonald's of coffee shops that they are quite empty. Coffee and cigarettes go together. So now when you want to have a coffee and cigarette, you run into the donut shop buy the coffee, take a sip, then run out to have puff of your cigarette outside to finish your coffee. By this time your coffee is now as cold as outside. What shit this is! I have been to the hospital to see people with their I.V.'s attached puffing their cigarettes outside in the cold. If they are admitted for cancer or other disease, now for sure they will die from pneumonia.
It has come to the point that the goverment has divided us into a smoking/non smoking society. Lately, when meeting an individual before even shaking his/her hand, I ask "Are you a smoker or non-smoker?" This helps me determine how much germs I will catch. If some one has an issue with writing or sympathize with me, I invite him/her to voice opinion in this column.

by BEERLOVER NOTANALCHOLIC, TORONTO
05-Mar-2006
I ENJOY A BEER WITH MY MEAL. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THAT. I WENT TO THE BEER STORE TO PURCHASE A SIX PACK. EACH TIME IT SEEMS THAT THE PRICE HAS INCREASED. THE STORE DID NOT HAVE ANY SIX PACKS LEFT, THEY RAN OUT. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. I SAID OKAY GIVE ME TWELVE, THEY DID NOT HAVE THAT EITHER. THEY DO HOWEVER HAVE FIFTEEN. I PAID FOR THE DAMN THING $22.45. IS THIS HIWAY ROBBERY OR WHAT FOR A LOUSY BEER. OF COURSE IT IS A MONOPOLY IN THIS COUNTRY. SINCE WHEN SHOULD BEER COST SO MUCH MONEY! WHAT IS IN THERE THAT WE DO NOT KNOW. SINCE WHEN WAS THIS FIFTEEN PACK DEVELOPED LIKE THE STUPID COSTCO STORE WHERE YOU BUY 3 PINEAPPLES INSTEAD OF 1, AND ALL THEY HAVE ARE THE ODD SIZES - INSTEAD OF 4 KILOS THEY HAVE 3.7 OR 6.2., ETC. ETC. JUST TO CONFUSE THE CONSUMER. DO THEY THINK THAT CANADIANS ARE SO STUPID THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CALCULATE OR WHAT? BUT MY QUESTION STILL STANDS - WOULD SOMEONE TELL ME AND ANSWER BACK IN THIS SECTION - PREFERABLY MR. LABATTS - WHAT ARE THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS IN THE BEER? WHY DO ALL OTHER PRODUCTS HAVE THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS AND NUTRITION VALUE? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I AM DRINKING OR IF IT ANY GOOD FOR ME OR NOT! AND WHY THE HELL IT COSTS SO MUCH MONEY THAT DOES EVENTUALLY GO DOWN THE DRAIN!!

eye glasses I recently purchased for my 14 year old son.
by Kelly Lapp, Hastings
04-Mar-2006
To Whom It May Concern;
I am writing to let you know about a problem with the eye glasses I recently purchased for my 14 year old son. To start off when the glasses first came in they were completely wrong and we had to wait several more days to pick them up. I have been noticing for the last couple of weeks that my son was not cleaning his glasses (so that is what i though) When I finally confronted him with that he told me that he cleans his glasses on a daily basis. he then told me that no matter what he does his glasses are never completely clean and he is having to squint to see some things. On careful examination and cleaning i noticed that no matter what I did the glasses were not coming clean. When we purchased the glasses we paid for the coating to be put on them that is supposed to help protect the eyewear. It is to my disappointment that there must be something wrong with the coating. I would like to have something done about this problem immediately. My son is still having to squint through glasses that are supposed to help be able to see. This to me is a problem that should be delt with right away. I went to Hakim Optical because this company came highly recomended to me by family and friends. I trusted that by choosing your company I would not be disappointed in the product I would recieve. Can you imagine my disappointment when the product I received was not at all what it was supposed to be. The place that the glasses were puchased is in Peterborough, On. I would appriciate it if someone could see to this matter a.s.a.p.
Thank You
Kelly Lapp

Private label - Reality
by Sam Truax, Guelph
03-Feb-2006
For anyone that is complaining about private labels... please realize that they are actually products that are manufactured by the big established companies and then sold to private label companies who package and distribute them at a cheaper cost than the big companies. They are often distributed to stores that sell more 'no name' product than big name product. Therefore, the packaging may look cheaper and you may have never heard of the companies on the labels before but you are consuming the same quality products. However, don't confuse these with cheaper foreign companies that often distribute their poor quality products through the same distribution channels.

About Neo Citran: You're right!
by Valerie Frank, Cambridge
09-Dec-2005
To the person who brought this to our attention, I would like to thank you because I just realized smth. Sugar, or 'sucrose' is within the ingredients of Neo Citran, and being diabetic you should double check next time to protect yourself. But here's the thing: you were right to complaint because sucrose is actually the last last ingredient listed, with both artificial colours and the flavour and all the other sodium, magnesium, etc. stuff listed before it. And tasting the product I'd say it's full of sugar! It's definitely not just a little bit to put it last! In my opinion it's like 90% sugar, and they list it last? They should change the label immediately! How irresponsible and sneaky is this?!

The beginning of the Fall of an Empire...
by John Ayres, Mississauga
09-Dec-2005
I was reading the latest news about Loblaws and their reports on dropping shares and concerns about future profit. Apparently they do not make enough profit. So now they're talking about cutting costs, and passing on ideas like reducing the store space and warehouse number to save money in production. Now this is really concerning for me, the general consumer, who luckily understands a little bit how things work. How will Loblaws cut the fixed costs? Given that distribution, space, storage, etc. are all fixed costs, what really will be the solution? Well, to bring things out in the open, I'll tell you how they'll do it: THEY WILL CUT IN QUALITY! That is the only variable, and will be the first to change. And they dare to mention the word "value" more than 10 times in the article! Yeah right! I don't trust this "value" in times of losses, do you? So we're supposed to shop at Loblaws, pay more than in other stores, and buy poor quality! Sure! Not me!

Neo Citran is hiding smth?
by Frances Dubois, Newmarket
06-Dec-2005
Hi Flyermall and thank you for this opportunity to write my complaint. I hope Neo Citran will read it. I bought this product for my cold, and while drinking it I feel a real distinctive sweetness. Being diabetic I immediately checked the ingredients and didn't see any sugar in there. However, I am already feeling the reaction of sugar, which is definitely included in Neo Citran. Can somebody tell me why you don't put it in the ingredients? Do we have to sue to make you think of the consumer?

Highway 407 "ETR" - who the hell own this piece of road
by Tommy Jones, Windsor
04-Dec-2005
I taking cruise one sunny afternoon and I accidentally ended up on the 407 ETR whatever.
It is a nice stretch of road after realizing my mistake I exited. Finally a few months later I received a bill for approximately $30 for administration fees, mileage, etc.
What the hell, do we not pay enough taxes? Who the hell owns this piece of road anyway? Maybe I should have just reversed all the way back and exited at the point of entry - maybe this would have wiped out my bill.

Happy Vick Inhaler User
by Mike Dolani, Buffalo
04-Dec-2005
I purchased a Vicks inhaler umteen years ago. I still have this in my possession since I only needed to use it a few times a year when I had a cold to clear up my nose.
Unfortunately, now I realize that it is time to replace it. It has been a faithful cold companion for many years. My compliments to the makers.
I will now invest in another Vicks Inhaler and hope that I continue to have years of nasal congestion relief.

The "Joseph Straus" can opener nightmare
by Unhappy Bachelor, Belleville
04-Dec-2005
I had one can opener I purcased years ago for 59/69 cents. I had no problems with this and felt since it was old and rusty it would be appropriate to invest in another one so I can impress the girls. I purchased the most expensive one in the store -"Josef Strauss" trademark - a beautiful silver creature, nice handle, and hook on two "whatevers" so they could be easily hung on the rack. I took it home and tried to open a can of Delmonte peach halves and had a hell of a time opening the can. Finally, I had to use a hunting knife to finish opening the can. I ended up with some peach slices as a result. I returned the can opener to the store and they kindly replaced my can opener with another one of the same brand. Home I went to open another can, same problem - the opener does not work effectively. On my next trip to the store, I intend to purchase the $1.00 can opener and at least be happy for the next few years.

Response to bean sprout lover

It was the Ontario medical officer that indicated that there was a problem with all sprouts. Toronto public health unit was also involved.

CFIA only recalled product from one producer... out of many producers. You obviously live in a hole cause there are many sprouts out on the market for purchase and eaten with no side effect.

Why are shirts not made correctly (Damn Buttons)
by Paul Bernardo, Ottawa
25-Nov-2005
I know some people think this may be stupid... but I don't care. I've had it I'm so p.....d. Everytime, I buy a dress shirt, they have flimsy stupid sewing, and they buttons come off. Now you may ask, why are you shopping at a cheap store? I don't care, even the $190 shirts suck. That's my beef, thought I would vent. There must be some kind of regulation for taking care of mens needs.

CFIA GOOFFED AGAIN!
by Bean Sprout Lover, Toronto
25-Nov-2005
I am enraged after reading the latest posting from CFIA: Recall of Bean Sprouts. They say they are sold in packages under various store names, or with/without the Sun Wah name. To me this means that bean sprouts in general is a product I should never buy again! I do not know for how long the product has been on the shelf, who sells it, if it's only in stores or even in restaurants, it's all a mess! Apparently I now cannot buy bean sprouts anywhere, because the CFIA is not telling me exactly what to avoid and what not. Or for how long! Why don't they check the products first hand, but let it circulate in the market, for who knows how long, and then recall it? What good is it to me if I wake up with symptoms tomorrow? I just had bean sprouts few days ago! They say you can have high fever, severe headaches, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarhea, and even severe arthrites! Well, I have arthrites! Is this because of the bean sprouts I love to eat? How unresponsible and vague is this recall, leaving us worried like this. Why do they always say "volunteer recall" anyways? Does that make it better? And for who?

Bravo television station - nonsense
by Dissatisfied Viewer, Ottawa

Normally, when viewing a movie I usually like to read the credits shown after the movie. After I see the film, I like to see who the actors, producers, etc. are. But Bravo - no -credits are replaced with very fast moving letters on the side and commercials appear - usually stupid ones - that stupid little talking lizard - someone should squash him some day - Would Geico cover him?
Why television of this stature/Bravo - think crooked the same way the letters appear.

Wal Mart - Sugar - so hard - use as brick
by Unhappy Consumer, Windsor
23-Nov-2005
I am in the market for a brick layer to convert the Sugar I purchased at Wal Mart - Great Value Brand Fine Granulated Sugar at the value price of $1.57.
This sugar is so hard and rock solid, I believe I need a brick layer to help me find out what to do with it since I believe it is not I can consume without the aid of a hammer and chisel.
I am wondering how a company such as Wal Mart does not check out the products they are offering to the Canadian consumer and if they are aware of the problem, why is this product still on the shelf along with other products under the same stupid Great Value brand name.

Sealtest Moooo Trick
by Nomore Sealtestmoooo, Ajax
23-Nov-2005
I recently purchased a 500ml carton of Sealtest 1% Chocolate Milk as my beverage of choice to complement my meal. Granted I was very thirsty and hungry. Lo and behold, upon opening the carton, I heard the infamous "Moo". Cool! I guess I am a winner of something big, I thought, hmm... $$$. Yeah!
I am in my car still wanting to drink my milk. I have tried every which way to open the inside of the carton to consume the chocolate milk I paid for. I am yet to drink this.
However, I have discovered that I have won a "Personalized Cell Phone Cover" a grand total cost of 0.3 cents in China. I now have to find a computer, call into their website, correctly answer a skill -testing question, then follow their instructions to create my own personalized cell phone cover.
Now then - how brilliant these people are to think of this. I am going to go through all this trouble following the instructions - I needed my milk to drink at the time I purchased it. That is the reason I bought the milk. Not a bag of salt water contained in the carton instead of milk.
I can tell you this, Mr. Sealtest - use your brain on figuring out how to do a better product at a lower price instead of spending thousands of dollars on this stupidity and in trying to fool the consumer. When I buy a product - I want to consume the product. There should be a law condemning people who try to be too smart, thinking everyone else is stupid.

Re:Where to buy Sushi Grade Salmon?
by j w, Toronto
14-Nov-2005
Hi there,
There is a Korean supermarket on Yonge Street, just a little north off Steeles, on the east side of Yonge, I believe its 7700 (close enough) Yonge ST called Galleria Supermarket.
They have sushi grade salmon and many other Sashimi type of thing you can get.
Also if you ever have a chance walking around Korean Toen on Bloor between Bathurst and Christie, the many grocery stores there have different types of sashmi/sushi grade fish.
Cheers

BLOCKBUSTER: Typically polite; Practically rude!
by Mariella Finta, Etobicoke
07-Nov-2005
Don't you all love the mandatory customer greeting from Blockbuster staff saying "good evening" once you enter the door? Well there's no harm in being polite to the person who's about to spend money in-store. Now try to address a complaint at the same smiling employees on your way out. For example: "This DVD doesn't play with sound, and my Saturday home night was ruined" or "I'm thinking of keeping the DVD and charging the sale price into my account". Two different employees, two identical responses: "I'm sorry, the system cannot be reversed". Apparently, you can get a replace, but cannot cancel your rent fee, despite the fact you didn't watch it due to the sound missing. And apparently, you cannot change your mind about returning or not the DVD, because "the system cannot be reversed". And while you try to explain that the No-Late-Fees promotion is fairly new and you needed that information before you decide whether to return or buy a DVD after all, the employee will keep the same robot look in the eye and ironically point "We have had this promotion since February", as in "goodmorning, where have you been all this time!"
Well, maybe I haven't been renting from Blockbuster all this time! And maybe I did well avoiding all the irony and the machine-like repetition of "The system cannot be reversed" while you ask one after the other different questions. And look how I reverse the system: Taking Scissors and Cutting Card in Two Pieces! So much for your politeness!

Reply to person who wants to boycott IKEA...
by Steven Chang, North York
18-Sep-2005
An anonymous person complained here about IKEA selling breakfasts for $1 when he sells them at his retaurant for close to $3...
Why in the world do you think I should pay you $2 extra of my hard-earned money? I love IKEA! Their breakfasts are awesome and a great deal. Their furniture is fantastic and I buy lots of stuff there.
If you are a small business trying to survive, what makes you think I should give you my hard-earned money?? So that I can help pay for your fancy home or car? You have got to be kidding me!
My money is my money and if you cannot survive with an IKEA nearby, try starting a different business...maybe even just buy stock at IKEA!
Competition is a reality my friend, get with the program!

The price of the sale product went higher before the end of sale date
by annmarie marshall, toronto
16-Sep-2005
Good Morning.
I went to purchase the Goudas White Rice that was on sale for $3.99 yesterday, at the Jane and Lawrence location. As I was checking out, the Cashier told me it was $4.99. The advertisement stated $3.99 from Sept 7th to Sept 17th. This woman was very rude, no form of Customer Service, was outright arguing with me. 'Her comments was the shipment was delayed and the price went up'. Also, the gas went up, don't you have to buy if you drive. Why would you say that to a customer.
If any product was giving away in that store for free, my family and my friends would not be a part of that sham, because there is always a catch to something.
I really hope that they change their attitude and provide better customer service.
thank you
Annmarie

Thanks for letting me get this all out !!
by NICKEY D'EON, BARRINGTON PASSAGE
09-Sep-2005
Hi, I just found this site and it looks great and all, the idea is super!! We haven't been getting our sales for 2 months now, still no idea why?? Anyways my comments are "This is great - but no help to me - the flyers are different here in Nova Scotia and only the locations for mostly Ontario are here!!" If anyone knows if there is a site like this for the Maritimes I'd love to know it!!! Also I am a worker at a Tim Hortons here in NS and our small coffe is $1.05 not $1.10 wonder why the 5 cent hike in Ontario and Honestly, there are good and bad workers everywhere! I personally beleive in the quality of service and getting the orders right everytime!! I know I work with slack teenagers at times and even 20 something workers who are lazy but there are those of us who do WORK! Mister if you were only 3 cents short I would've paid that myself!! And to the lady who's hubby gets 9 sugar in his XL coffee - don't worry about what they say - go complain to the manager about them being rude - they'll get a reprimand and it'll be put on their file!! Or if you are uncomfortable getting the 9 sugar - just ask for a 4 sugar and a handfull of sugar packets on the side!! Thanks for letting me get this all out !!

VERY GREATFUL FOR THIS WEBSITE
by Claire Lapointe, Ottawa
28-Aug-2005
JUST A SHORT NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW HOW USEFUL THIS WEBSITE IS TO ME. I AM HANDICAPPED AND THE APARTMENT WHERE I RESIDE DON'T GET FLYERS DELIVERED, THEREFORE I RELY ON FLYERMALL ALL THE TIME, UNLESS THE FLYER FOR CERTAIN STORES DON'T PARTICIPATE IN THIS (LOBLAWS, FOR ONE), I JUST CALL MY DAUGHTERS OR FRIENDS FOR THAT PARTICULAR STORE'S SPECIALS. AGAIN THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Think before you Write....
by Wonder Woman, North York
26-Aug-2005
After reading the majority of suggestions that users have vocalized to Flyermall, I would like contribute a few comments of my own, which perhaps, may even be in close proximity with the web administrator?s own opinions. Meanwhile, I have also taken into consideration that the majority of viewers in this forum have minimal or basic technical experience with computers or the internet. Although, there is an overwhelming consensus that this website offers the average shopper, a secure and cost-efficient environment where they can browse for weekly savings at their favourite store?I am still slightly frustrated with some of the comments/suggestions posted in this forum. Here are my observations:
1) The majority of flyers are accessible via a ?scanned? document or a link to an advertiser?s website. As a result, there is limited flexibility in what you can do with an advertisement which is just copied and uploaded into the website 2) Why would anyone want past issues of a flyer? If a sale has passed, there will always be more sales in the future. There is no real economic or historical value to creating a separate repository for outdated flyers. 3) Finally, I assume Flyermall is a non-revenue or low-revenue generating website, therefore if everyone were to be charged a nominal fee to accommodate requests such as querying items or downloadable *pdf. files, would viewers still be willing to pay for the technical maintenance of this website? So before anyone decides to make a suggestion next time, please remember that this website is free and whether your request is significant enough to appeal to the general audience and mostly importantly the website administrator?s work effort.
As a bonus to devoted ?No Frills' customers, I have included a website which outlines the general history of the business, and includes a link to the company website (where their flyer is posted.)

Stop being a Smart Ars!
by Stephen Wright, London
25-Aug-2005
To J. Dilecce posting on Aug.19, and his highly intelligent discovery: Dear J. You may feel that you saved everybody's lives by your amazing discovery: to visit websites of each store at a time. I would like to introduce you to the Internet Hell, of which people that KNOW how to surf another website and use the computer, are very much aware of: 1. The Spelling Dead-End This is caused by trying to spell the right store name on the web-browser. Examples: Sheridannurseries.ca, Commisso.ca, and other endless uses of 'n's, 'm's, 's'es, and so on. 2. The Introduction Page Grid This goes to all the websites loading a flash introduction on your computer which takes forever to load anyways, and all those who like the abstract entrance where you have to guess how to get in. Example: Try to access Food Basics and you'll find that unless you click on flags, you'll never get in. Sure, we're proud Canadians, but we're getting frustrated too! 3. The Pop-up Barricade Half the flyers on websites are only accessible as pop-ups, as for example Best Buy, which if it wasn't for Flyermall, I would never be able to see, thanks to my pop-up blocker, which I won't turn off that's for sure. 4. The Show-Offs Did you know that people visit Flyermall to view FLYERS? Instead, websites like Loblaws and Fortinos Load you with all the stuff about the company before you run out of patience clicking your way over to the actual weekly flyer. 5. The Guessing Contest Have you tried typing in NoFrills.ca? Oups, it doesn't go anywhere! Well then, you're in for the game: Guess the website! How many guesses until you get to your flyer? Maybe too many to keep trying? I think so! 6. The PDF Nightmare Of course, we also have the latest technology followers. They make you download their PDF Flyers! How nice, load my computer memory, and then wait to open. Sure, I got all the time in the world! Specials are good for a full week right? So Sir/Madam, now you too know why viewers like me prefer Flyermall. Even my wife who is just a beginner on computers finds it very convenient to view all the flyers here. I feel personally offended with your "suggestions" as you're trying to outsmart us dummies who prefer the easy way to weekly specials. You know, there are lots of smarter shoppers out there. Duh!

The big difference at west brantford IGA
by christina handy, brantford
21-Aug-2005
This is a compliment I have been a longtime shopper at the IGA have seen the store change names from calbecks to sobeys to now IGA as of the last 3 years in that time I have seen many changes there for the good and the worse .The worse had been the decline in the quality of the produce over the last couple of years namely due to the departure of a lot of familiar fixtures there with the likes of john the produce manager Sharon, bernie and a young man named mike who would never let you go by him without a hello and a smile.I was so happy when I went in there a week ago when I noticed that familiar smile and a vast improvement in the quality and appearance of the produce he had returned back home Iwas so overjoyed with the fact that I now truly believe they have the hometown advantage and I can now buy my produce wiyh my groceries again instead of going across the street to the local market.

I have a Powermate Generator by COLEMAN PC0401855
by LEONARD NIXON, PRINCE ALBERT
21-Aug-2005
I have a Powermate Generator by COLEMAN PC0401855 and it is a piece of (shit) I used it for two days and then it stopped working. I took it to a local repair shop and he said they work that way. Put a 7.5amp motor in and away you go. One hundred watt light and it no work too good. CTC people told me to take it back and I did but with mixed feelings. No Luck now I have a 750.00 Bucket of you guess what. This is not good. I will not ever buy a large item from CTC again. You just don't get any help...

Burger King's teen staff....RUDE!
by Bonnie Estord, Windsor
20-Aug-2005
I am aware that this has nothing to do with this site....but at some time in our lives we go through the Drive-Thru....I wish that these fast food chains would have at least one adult working each shift to oversee their teenage staff. The LAST time I went through a Burger King drive-thru I was talked to like I was a piece of...well you know, by a girl that was about 16yrs old....she was obviously unshowered and unprepared to work the morning shift....and a nasty attitude....if I was her mother I would have been so ashamed!!!!

Stop complaining about the lack of Loblaws/No Frills flyer.
by J. Dilecce, North York
19-Aug-2005
I have to say, I don't know why you can't just go to Loblaw's/ No Frill's/Fortino's website to see their flyers.
They're updated faster than Flyermall's site. Every Friday afternoon, they post their most current flyer. Flyermall is great, but sometimes I don't see the updated flyers until Sunday (they are delievered Thursday in my area)
If you can't manage to surf another website, it's your own problem and maybe you should learn how to use your computer and internet programs.

Discriminated Animal Lovers: Voice your anger!
by Johny Anonymous, Toronto
18-Aug-2005
I am just coming back from a night out that wasn't in my plans at all. In the company of 5 friends, I decided to treat them to a nice dinner at Montana's Restaurant on Steeles and Dufferin. I was prepared to spend way more than $200 (for the record). My 6th friend though happens to be a small dog, which you can actually hold in the palm of your hand, and which has been my loyal beloved pet for more than 10 years. Heading towards the entrance, a fat ugly guy rushes to stop us by saying that "it's against the law to take the dog in the patio"! This unpleasant person simply sent us off just because one of the members of this cheerful group was a dog!
With all the rights animals enjoy today, and all the protection from the law and all this, they still can't join their patrons to dinner! Fortunately, East Side Marios in the same area showed contrasting hospitality and the evening was saved at the last moment. After all, not only the service, but also the environment and the food were much better there!
Any pet owners feel me out there? Join this complaint with your letters.

Price matching saves time!
by Karen MacDonald, Mississauga
10-Aug-2005
I have read all the emails here, and I'm surprised at the number of people who are running from store to store after the advertised grocery specials.
You know, most stores will honour the advertised price of items if you bring in the other stores flyer.
I have many times brought in my grocery store flyers to Walmart that has a grocery section, and they match all the sale prices. Same goes for Zellers that have the grocery section. Also, most grocery stores have this policy, but don't advertise it.
So next time you see good sales at several grocery stores and have the actual flyer, take it with you and ask the manager if they do price matching. Most say yes, so as the cashier is ringing in the items, she overides the prices and you save money and GAS, by shopping at one store instead of several!
I would imagine that if you printed off the flyers from Flyermall, they would honour the prices from them too.
FIND OUT YOUR LOCAL STORES POLICY ON PRICE MATCHING-IF THEY DON'T PRICE MATCH, FIND A STORE THAT DOES!

No Customer Service...Here's Why:
by complain to head office, canada
08-Aug-2005
I really enjoy flyermall and have been reading all the comments for so long. I, too have had problems as a customer at various stores(I'll save this beef for some other time).
However, I do work at a store. Many of my coworkers, sad to say really don't care about the customer, and the managers who are well aware of the bad attitude, always and I do mean ALWAYS in this store either:
1)use the excuse they can't fire the lazy people because of the union which if is true and not an excuse then proves
UNIONS DEFEND THE LAZY EMPLOYEE AND ARE NOT FOR THE WORKER--I REPEAT, THE WORKER. Why would a union defend an employee who shouldn't be on the payroll in the first place? (ask the UFCW--United Food and Commercial Workers union why they defend employees who should be fired when the boss tries to fire them)
or
2)The manager just turns a blind eye hoping the problem will go away and of course it never does and things get worse.
Customer service will be accomplished when this place gets rid of the union---which has helped thieves and rude employees keep their job(you can thank the UFCW and managers who don't care, for that).
Also, you as a customer should be informed--most if not all places have a form which can be filled out and if the place has a form for your comments fill out the form and send it to head office. (little secret: if you have a complaint DO NOT TELL THE MANAGER AS THE MANAGER WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU--THE CUSTOMER--MAIL A LETTER TO HEAD OFFICE. HEAD OFFICE LISTENS).
(I can't elaborate more or my managers will know it's me if I get into detail to prove my point how managers don't care about you, the customer, and try to cover their own butts--and the other manager's butt-- so head office won't fire them--managers are not in the union so head office could fire them if they really wanted to).

Flyer mall is wunderful>>>>>>>>>>>>>
by LIZ GREAVES, Toronto
07-Aug-2005
I have known about flyer mall for a couple of years. I originally heard about it on Breakfast Televison. I attended the flyermall birthday celebration and enjoyed the food and the free samples. I can hardly wait until next year. I have shared this site with so many people. I know that everyone always complains that there are no frills flyers. No frills has their own site. You can sign up with them and receive their flyer in your email. Hats off to your flyermall for maintaining this wunderful site....I look forward to going in to check it out every saturday morning with my Tim Hortons on the side.

PLEASANTLY surprised at great cust service...SATURN, Dundas St WHITBY
by D Caggianello, Whitby
06-Jul-2005
I was in a pinch to replace my car quickly and I bought my friend's 1996 Saturn (I was unable to utilize my Insurance Rental because I was physically unable to drive). This was to be a "humpcar", until I was able to make an educated decision and purchase my real car....
Mine has an electronic locking feature. I had no spare key (it was waiting in my friend's mailbox, in Toronto - I hadnt had the chance to make the drive down yet).
Of course, within the first week, I found myself locked out of my car with the keys still in the ignition, and running in my driveway. I had to get my daughter to school and make it to work in Markham within an hour!
In a panic I called Saturn to ask if someone could come get me and cut me a key. They told me they couldnt come get me 'cuz their drivers were all out of town that AM, but to please come in and they'd take care of me. Ya right, I thought/assumed.....
To my complete joy & amazement, the second the cab dropped me off they were rushing me to the service dept, "its the panic lady, lets get her a key quick!". I waited all of 2 minutes, then was handed my new key & told, "no problem maam, its on Saturn".... to boot, one of their drivers had now returned, and appeared beside me, just waiting to whisk me home.... again I was told, "no problem maam, its on Saturn".
TO THE SATURN FOLKS ON DUNDAS E IN WHITBY, my thanks and adoration for your help and friendly treatment...I only today realized this section of flyermall, and thought this would be a great forum to send out this type of good feedback
This is a customer care story we would likely never hear of or expect!!!! I hope thousands will read this
Thanks so much, Saturn, you deserve the exposure!!!!!

IKEA.. what on earth is this??
by Not Disclosed, Etobicoke
03-Jul-2005
My disapointment goes to IKEA.. and to think that I used to be a fanatic shopper/visitor. There were the times when I would confidently shop there to decorate my newly-wedded daughters appartment. And now I think I just got over my addiction, all on one visit.
I am talking about all the cheap plastic items lying around, the dull paper lighting sets, the plain wood chairs and tables reminding unfinished pieces in a carpenter's workplace, and the massive collection of kitch design furniture attempting to pass-on at a "so-called" economical price. In fact, the only thing I liked on their last catalogue was the colour of the walls in those rooms filled with items totally lacking imagination and most of the times design talent!
I have contacted FlyerMall.com in the past requesting the IKEA flyer but now I take it back; great choice to not include them here. They have lost their originality together with their sense of real value. No way I will pay $300 for a cheap flattened-out fouton bed which comes in some mud colour and a washed out beige. I feel personally offended to be offered such diplays!
You may choose to post this or not, but I won't include any real info about me. In the past, IKEA has contacted me to explain why they do not include their flyer here. I found their letter completely impersonal and it clearly seemed it was an auto-reply. I don't even want to hear from them now. I hope they change their ways soon!

I suggest that the trays be washed
by Shirley Small, Northbridge
27-Jun-2005
I recently ate at one of the McDonald's restaurant. I got my order for eating there. When I picked up my tray to take it to the table, the underneath side was all grease, the handles were so greasy it made you wonder what kind of hands handled this and what other germs and buildup was there. I suggest that the trays be washed before returning them for reuse for the next customer to use, so they won't be grossed out, as I was.

Great site
by Collette Cooke, Fredericton
18-Jun-2005
I love this site, great to look and see what's available before I go out to shop as we get no flyers delivered to our apartment building.
I suggest all the people using this site check out Yahoo Groups to find coupon trading sites to go along with these great deals. I save hundreds of dollars between comparison shopping through these flyers and using my coupons.

Who are they trying to fool with False Warning Claims
by Regular Smoker, Smokeyville
05-Jun-2005
Basically, each time I purchase a package of cigarettes, yes cigarettes, I know the risks and since each and every product now available seems to contain an item or two that is bad for me, I will continue to enjoy killing myself.
However, I do not appreciate seeing a picture of some bloke who neglected his dental hygiene for many years, actually it looks like he neglected it for his whole life.
I am pretty certain that filthy tooth-filled, swollen gummed mouth was produced in a computer-designed photo shop and/or enhanced by the Adobe Illustrator (again compute r technology), which can do wonders in this computer age. Who are they trying to fool?
Do they think that all Canadians are stupid and ignorant of reality and that we will stop smoking because of a stupid picture like that?!
And what about the limp biscuit ? after smoking for umpteen years my biscuit still has a lot of yeast and is not in need of viagara.

Where to buy Sushi Grade Salmon?
by Jocelyn Smith, Toronto
27-May-2005
I thought sushi was so popular. However no grocery store (No Frills, Loblaws, Highland Farms, Food Basics, Price Chopper, Sobey's and even the Chinese T&T Supermarket) does not sell sushi grade salmon. To buy sushi premade is quite expensive and sometimes I would prefer just the fish. Does anyone know any other grocery store or food centre that carries sushi grade salmon???

Where did the "Shrimp Alfredo" go?
by Joanita Rojas, Oshawa
22-May-2005
I just love Captain HighLiners frozen "Shrimp Alfredo".
I used to be able to buy it at my local IGA, but it changed to PriceChoppers and they dropped the product. Found it at A&P, but the price is too high. Started shopping @ FoodBasics and to my delight they carried it @ a good price too. Now they have also dropped it! To make room for family size portioned products ......
Not all "FAMILIES" consist of 4 or more persons! There are many of us out there that only cook for one or need the convenience of single servings (for lunches etc.) Now I want to know which stores still carry my beloved "Shrimp Alfredo"? I've already checked some of the other grocery stores, but so far no luck. Highlander tells me its on store's order lists, but if they do not order the product they can't deliver!
Am I the only one eating this stuff?

Someone is Listening - but its probably not Longos
by Elviro Roberto, Woodbridge
18-May-2005
I had fun reading the previous complaint about Longos, and I have faced the similar experience. What a coincidince I find in the store opening section, that there is a new store opening, apparently Chinese run, that they claim are willing to learn even the Italian language. Who could imagine. I guess someone saw the need to listen to us.

I watch my vegetables die, what sadness
by Stuart Amzall, Newmarket
18-May-2005
The last three years I have bought tomatoes and other vegetable plants from supermarkets, only to watch them die in disappointment. This year I will never buy plants and seeds from the supermarkets, I will buy them from experienced stores that know about planting and growing, into beautiful masterpieces. I say this because; I wasted my money, and just want people to know not to waste theirs.

Longos will be crying the blues
by G Souri, Woodbridge
18-May-2005
I am of ethnic background and a resident in Woodbridge for over 15 years. I was one of the very few ethnic people living in Woodbridge. For a long time, I keep asking my local Longos supermarket to get me a few ethnic products, and at the time, no one responded. Then I saw three or four years ago, in one of the major newspapers in Canada, that Longo?s supermarkets have complained that bigger grocery stores are killing them. I thought to myself, no wonder they are killing them, its because whoever is running the Longos organization, is acting like a horse with blinds on the side, not seeing what is happening in Woodbridge over the last couple of years. To make my point, just across the street from me, there are now three Chinese families, at least three families from somewhere in the Caribbean, a mix of Somolians, various Chinese or Philipino, its hard for me to distinguish between them, a couple of families from Greece, and only a two Italian families, whom have been there for years. Yet, when I go into the Longo?s store, all the isles give you the impression that you are shopping in Rome. They say, When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Now, when you are in a multi-cultural society, like Woodbridge is now, why doesnt this store manager listen to his customers, who are not all Roman? He should try to satisfy me, and all the nationalities that now live in this area, instead of focusing on just Italian products. I do love Italian products, but not everyday, every week, or every month. I like to experiment with other nationalitys foods as well as indulging myself in my own country?s delicacies. I understand sometime in June, that Highland Farms will open a store. I have been to Highland Farms store, and I see that they do care of customer product requests. I have asked them sometimes for a particular product, and they cared enough to get it for me. Unless Longos changes their way of doing things drastically, I do not think that they will be in business much longer. I guess time will only tell, but I can tell you, that no tears will be shed should they go out of business. I also hear that some Chinese stores popup like mushrooms everywhere, the only reason why I think this is good, is because they like offering everything and at a very reasonable price.

Jim's valu-mart Waterloo
by Robert Payne, Kitchener
15-May-2005
Several weeks ago we purchased a package of Yoplait tubes from this store only to discover that this dairy product was a week past the "best before date" (great for the kids school snack). Upon returning such (at an expense for bus fare) we received somewhat of an apology.
Today (May 15th) I made the foolish mistake of trying to pay for a purchase at the same store with 2 well worn $5.00 bills, one of which wasn't acceptable to the scanner that they check the bills with. This $5.00 bill would have been received as change from either the local McDonald's or the 7-11 that my co-resident works at. When I requested staff members names as they weren't going to return this bill the store staff had a problem with it, they weren't even going to give me the serial number of the bill.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem with any store and how long did it take for the store to return the money.
(wonder if I could sue for the embrasssment or have them charged with theft)
Myself I'll never set foot in a valu-mart again

Shopping Malls
by Ilda Telemann, Toronto
14-May-2005
I'd like to give a tip to my fellow shopping fans out there: Do not shop at any mall! If you're price sensitive, you can find great stuff at good prices, depending on the mall that you shop.
I realize this might be the unspoken truth about malls, but contrary to what most of us believe - that cheaper malls have older stuff fashion-wise, I just realized that finding the same top, which at Yorkdale costs 29.50 at the Costa Blanca store, and at Vaughn Mills costs just 14.99 (!), it's more about image than prices really... I'm talking the SAME top, size, colour, quality!
What I wouldn't give to know how they'd justify such an obvious price difference!

So my husband likes sweet coffe.BIG DEAL!!
by CARLA RAND, canning
14-May-2005
I am not impressed with the service that my husband and I receive when we go to the main Tim Hortons restaurant in New Minas, Nova Scotia. Every time we go to the drive thru there we leave mad simply because of the people that work there. When my husband talks to the speaker to make the order, it's always two extra large decafes, one 2 milk 4 sugar and 1 milk, 9 sugar. So my husband likes sweet coffe.BIG DEAL!! It doesn't matter who is working there when we go there, it's always the same thing"ew gross, that's disgusting!!" frankly, we are sick of it and stopped going there. We love Tim Hortons, but hate the attitudes from the employees. i've been working with the public since I've been 14 years old between the Nova Scotia Turkey Board, and our local reataurant and Convenience store and that is certainly NO WAY to talk to a customer.

I most likely will not plan to go there.
by Amy golberg, Whitby
11-May-2005
Every week I have to plan the food for the week for my daughter, my new husband and myself. That means foods that are fast and convenient for him as he has crazy hours, food to grow on for my 9 year old, and of course lighter food for me cause I seem to be perpetually dieting! Not easy on a budget. Let me tell you that when I found this site I grew a grocery fetish! I can now make a list of all the things I know we need, go through all the flyers, choose the best location (sometimes 2) and get a heck of a lot more bang for my buck.
If there is an argument that will get the Loblaws chains online it is this: Before I used to be loyal to just one store - every time I shopped. Now I browse and pick the best store for me that week. And I know that The L stores have great deals but to be honest if I cannot grab their flyers - other than the one on the Loblaws site which is limited - I most likely will not plan to go there.
Thanks!

Baking Soda: BE AWARE!!
by Jeenie Lee, Scarborough
10-May-2005
Some people might laugh at this, but when a person's life is endangered because of poor label design, there's no room for jokes...
I keep the Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in my fridge, to eliminato odours as it says on the label. I have mentioned to my family that it is not for eating... However, just a couple days ago my young daughter, in one of her very first attempts to make cookies, used a whole teaspoon for her batter! While the cookies were being baked, she fortunately happened to mention that the baking soda is not necessary to keep in the fridge. I realized immediately what had happened and threw away all the cookies!
What concerns me though is that when I told her that she should be very careful becuase this is a dangerous product if eaten, she raised her shoulders saying: "Well, you don't expect me to notice the Do Not Eat words below all these flashy icons and logos, do you"?! Point taken. Unless one is actually looking for warnings, the package for this product is so wrongly designed that it's easy for people to miss.
Watch what you eat and what you're not supposed to! Things are not always black and white...

Discontinued?
by Matilda Bowers, North York
06-May-2005
I have been a customer of Highland Farms for a long time, but lately I can't find products they used to sell there. Everytime I'm looking for an item and it's missing, the staff tells me it has been discontinued... I feel very disappointed that products I need I cannot find at the store where I shop! Needless to say, I won't be shopping there any longer...

by EDWARD ATKINSON, PORT DOVER
05-May-2005
YOUR LAST FLYER ENDING 15 APRIL 2005 IS A POORLY RUN SALE, I WENT TO SOBEYS SIMCOE ONTARIO 3 TIMES TO GET THE SALE ITEMS AT $1.00 EACH SUCH AS READY MADE SALAD, CARROTS, CHICKEN ETC. AFTER 3 TRIPS THEY STILL HAD NONE IN STOCK AND WE WERE TOLD THAT RAIN CHECKS COULD NOT BE ISSUED ON THIS SALE. WHAT GOOD IS A SALE IF YOU HAVE NO PRODUCT. I COULD ADVERTISE AT 52" COLOUR TV FOR $1.00 IF I HAD NONE AND WOULD NOT ISSUE A RAIN CHECK THE OLD BAIT AND SWITCH
I EXPECT A REPLY AS IF I DO NOT GET ONE I WILL PUT IT IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER.
I AM THAT UPSET, I HAVE NEVER COMPLAINED BEFORE BUT THIS SALE WAS THE LAST STRAW.

Maple Syrup or Ambrosia???
by Katherine Prokas, Mississauga
05-May-2005
I regret to be adding with my complaint to more letters criticizing stores... But I do really hope they can read this and give it some attention. Yesterday I visited a No Frills store in my area looking for maple syrup; just the regular one in plastic bottle, nothing fancy. Guided by my belief that No Frills has reasonable prices, I picked up a glass bottle, the only maple syrup bottle on the shelf, and I was ready to proceed to the cashiers when I saw the price: $9.97! Mind you it's a small bottle, which in my house will last maximum three days only! I asked one of the staff and after deep search of the shelves she found a different bottle which said "Organic Maple Syrup" on the label, and it turned out to be even more expensive! Turns out, the particular store had ran out of the regular bottles which cost much less... and they ran out on a Monday! Needless to go further with this I will just mention that other items where missing as well, as for example the portobello mushrooms (the cheap ones), the cream cheese (the cheap wrapped one not the one in plastic containers), and the regular ceasar sauce (only the extremely expensive organic sauces where still present on the shelf). I find it unacceptable for stores like No Frills, which have the reputation of good prices, to be missing the more economic items. Above all, I think is unbelievable they run out of items on a Monday! Check your supply, that's all I have to say. And I won't definitely spend a fortune on simple maple syrup, which is plenty and plenty in Canada, and which after all is not ambrosia!! I hope you consider this letter for improving your services. You could have made a new customer yesterday... for what is worth!

I am very frustrated about the contents of flyers posted
by Troubleshooter Joinme, Ottawa
25-Apr-2005
I am very frustrated about the over abundance of content in flyers which are posted in FlyerMall. Especially the food and grocery stores, which are over portraying, and prominently displaying meat products on the front pages. In one instance there are chickens weighing 4.39 kg. What a curious weight! Why did they not make it up say, 3 kg, 4 kg or 5 kg? Further the ad states the price: $1.99 per lb. The whole world is in kilogram, the weight is kilogram and yet the price listed is ?per pound?.
SO HOW MUCH DOES THE PACKAGE OF CHICKEN COST? DO I NEED A CALCULATOR, OR, SHOULD I TAKE MY SON WHO IS IN HIGH SCHOOL WITH ME EACH TIME I GO THE SUPERMARKET TO CONVERT?
Clicking further, I discovered on another grocery flyer on the second page I see an advertisement for Phoenix Aluminum Patio Sets. What stupidity and conflict of interest! Grocery stores are now selling furniture! Another one advertises underwear and socks!!
Another grocery store is advertising fertilizers, plant seeds, and other growing material. Why do they not leave this to the professionals? Last year I purchased seeds to grow some vegetables and the only thing that grew was a garden full of weeds. So I returned to the store to purchase weed killer, which also did not work. I then had to go to the professionals to remove it. I am still waiting for my carrots, when they finally come in I will return to the store to stick it up their down side (If you know what I mean.)
Looking thoroughly through the flyers for one of the major food stores on their 9th page I saw a 10kg bag of Robin Hood All Purpose Flour for $6.99. Then when I went to Galati Brothers it was priced at $4.99. So what is going on? What is the regular price of 10 kg of Robin Hood All Purpose Flour anyway?
On another occasion, Farms grocery store advertises Fresh broccoli, Fresh lettuce, Fresh cauliflower, fresh, fresh, fresh. Thank God! I have never seen anyone advertising anywhere rotten, rotten, rotten. But times are changing: groceries stores now sell underwear, patio furniture, etc., etc.!
I have visited the ?super colossus? grocery store. Wow, you need a bicycle or roller blades to take a tour around. Thankfully, these super grocery stores are void of shoppers, so bicycles will have the right-of-way. No accidents because there are not people to collide with. (This will be my new weight loss method, the scenic route. It is also recommended for speed or power walking exercise, you do not have to dress up because there is no one there to see you any way. What a great concept. Thank you, Mr. Super Colossus Grocery Store.
Maybe they should take some of the yellow off the wall and place it on the floor making excellent bike routes.
To top it all off, I excitedly scanned one of the major pharmacies flyer only to find out instead of pharmacy-related products on the front page, I can buy Campbells soup, I guess for medicinal purposes, chicken noodle soup for diaherra progression or prevention.
Finally, there is this particular big box stores flyer, with their great Stuper Value Brand. Who in their right mind will purchase Mustard, Salad Dressing or Ketchup under the Stuper Value Brand? Companies like Heinz, French?s, and Kraft spend years developing trustworthy brands of products that were household names since we were children. Who in their right frame of mind would purchase these Stuper Value Brand products, oh well, there idiots everywhere.
Well, writing this letter certainly took a load off of my mind. I hope these particular advertisers will take notice. I am sure there are others with similar feelings who may wish to express themselves.
Sincerely,
Troubleshooter
P.S. I challenge others to express their opinions as I have done.

Coffee At Tim Hortons
by TIM COLLINS, AJAX
24-Apr-2005
Until a few days ago I was a regular patron of Tim Hortons. I certainly did enjoy their coffee.
On this particular occasion, I drove up to the microphone/menu board and ordered my usual small coffee. On checking my wallet I realized that I had a $100 bill and $1.07 in change.
The cost of the small coffee came to $1.l0.
My $100 bill was unacceptable (yours will be too), and because I was 3 cents short, I could not receive the coffee.

a Chrysler filter on a Mercury car
by ROBERT McCOY, AJAX
21-Apr-2005
Don't trust green and ross! kingston rd ajax
I am writing to let you know of what bad service I have received from your company. First it was with my wife?s van I sent it in and while they were servicing the oil change they tampered with the windshield wiper motor. I was told it would cost two hundred dollars to fix, and all they did was loosened a wire. After that i took in my daughters car, for an oil change. They put in twice as much oil and spilled all over my drive way, but i over looked it figuring it was a mistake. Then when I went to look at changing it again i noticed they had put a Chrysler filter on a Mercury car. I called to complain and was told somebody would be back to me with in 24 hours, which never happened. I think that their customer service is deplorable and I will not be using their services again.

Thanks
by Jenna D, Brampton
10-Apr-2005
Much THANKS for this GREAT site!!
I must say one thing about our local Food Basics, Vodden & Kennedy in Brampton. They have been gettting rid of GREAT products that I have been buying weekly and now that they have gotten rid of 7 things that we can't live without.. well its a big BYE BYE Food Basics. I have written them about this but they don't care, even when I said that I wouldn't be shopping there anymore ($100.00 a weeks worth), so I now take my grocery need so NO FRILLS.
A question for my fellow shoppers, the one thing that I MUST find and can't is those little potatoes. They are little round potatoes with SKIN ON(the ones you buy with no skin are cut from regular potatoes and not what I'm looking for)... my doctor told me they were the best as they are low in starch and Food Basics got rid of them and I need to find a store that has them. If any of you know PLEASE write me at jennas_mail@hotmail.com
THANKS!!

Crappy Installation of Carpet by Giant Carpet
by Philip Peterson, Toronto
22-Mar-2005
Beware when you buy from these guys on the installer you get. Ours was in a hurry to get out. Now we have staples sticking out and a crappy carpet laying job and to top it all off, the installer left all his garbage, left-over underpad, carpet etc. When I complained the store manager came out and simply said the job was "fine". I had to point out all the mistakes made, nails sticking out, loose carpet. Needless to say the manager did nothing to remedy the situation other than to condescendingly say "I'll send over a guy who will put staples wherever you want". And when asked about the garbage, suddenly there was an additional "disposal fee". Complete jerk. I am now taking the matter to small claims court to have the job done right or get my money back.

Great site! Why waste paper for advertising?
by S. Lie, Toronto
14-Mar-2005
Since we moved to downtown Toronto in 2003, we have been relying on this Flyermall website more and more. Not only this website is available 24 hours a day and I don't have to look for the paper flyers everytime I want to go shopping, but the additional benefit is: it is also environmentally friendly.

Absence of Loblaws Flyers
by Erin Judges, Whitby
08-Mar-2005
This is a great site! I am glad Loblaws is not on here. Their prices are insanely high, it's no wonder the Weston family pocketed $26 billion dollars last year. They rip the consumer off! I prefer to shop at stores that give me value for my dollar - why pay more for the same product somewhere else if you don't have to? And by they way, Price Chopper is owned by Sobeys and Food Basics is owned by The Atlantic & Pacfic Company - I'd much rather give them my money. As for flyermall - Keep up the good work!

Regarding No Frills and Loblaws
by Kelly Littman, Bowmanville
04-Mar-2005
Obviously Jennifer from Etobicoke works very hard for Loblaws - how else would the annual revenue be quoted so eloquently. Loblaws and No Frills may not miss my business but with the way your comments have slammed almost every hardworking person who uses this website as an invaluable resource in their very very busy lives, they may lose a lot more business than you think. I find your comments offensive and unwarranted. I have always liked the company and this has been my only complaint in many years of shopping there. Also, note that this website does not limit the number of entries they could have so why not enter each flyer for each area - I'm sure they don't differ that much anyways. Oh and if you do work for the Weston family, why are you comparing prices at the flyermall.com anyway???

Thanks for the great site
by Kathy H, St. Catharines
01-Mar-2005
I love this site and have passed this on to many friends and family. I'd rather check out the flyers online rather than getting my hands dirty handling those flyers, or looking for the flyers, or wondering if I even have the flyers delivered to me when I need them. Why would companies even bother printing them for delivery when it would save them so much money if they just had them posted here!? I think they would do better to say that they post on flyermall.com.
I live in St. Catharines and work in Hamilton and often shop in both cities, by coming to your site I am able to view flyers that are not available to me locally, and I get the benefit of saving money in either location!
I would love to see The Barn flyer online again. Do you have a email contact for them I'd appreciate that very much.
Keep up the great work! I don't shop until I check out the prices here and if they don't post here, I don't shop there.

Love this website

I didn't know this website existed. Had a discussion with a friend about a specific item being on sale at one of the supermarkets. She said one place and I said another. So I decided to see if supermarket flyers were on a website and found this website. It's fantastic. I'll be back.

3.99 8X10 photo no available at 4 different locations(machine broken)
by robert mclenon, mississauga
19-Feb-2005
Friday February 18th I attended three different locations and was informed the Kodak Machine was broken. The fourth location's machine did not produce a picture. Those locations.
Jane and Wilson North York,
Burnhamthorne and Central Parkway Mississauga,
Dundas and Dixie Mississauga,
and Etobicoke's Cloverdale mall.
Cost me $10.00 worth of gas, but did proven something.
Don't count on rainchecks or excuses...neither seem to be available ...just annoyed clerks well aware of that old obsolete machine gathering dust in the corner.
Flyer for period February 12 to 18th, page 11 Ad.

Outstanding resource centre! Just one common complaint - read on.
by Kelly Littman, Bowmanville
10-Feb-2005
I'm not sure if the owners of the independently owned No Frills have noticed but I and a lot of my friends who all have 2+ children under 10 have all stopped shopping at the local No Frills due to not receiving flyers in our paper and not having the ability to resource them a the Flyermall. I am a Food Basics and PriceChopper shopper now. This day in age you need to stay competitive and I believe that having your flyers conveniently online at one website gives people the ability to comparison shop and then decide where to go for their groceries. Is that what they are afraid of? If the prices are good and the quality is good then you'd be wise to get on the website that most people are using to find out where the values are! I'm not into wasting my time sending them an email because as stated by previous entrants it falls on deaf ears and it is not my responsibility to let the company know that I would like to shop there. They are supposed to show me they want my business and give me reason to want to shop with them. 'nuff said.

Anyone who likes to use flyers will feel like a kid in a candy store
by Sherry Laue, Toronto
28-Jan-2005
by Sherry Laue, Toronto
23-Jan-2005
Hi,
I just love your website. I've written before. This time I'd like to know why Loblaws and No Frills aren't on your site this week. They were last week.
I'd like you to know that I have written and spoken to head office at Loblaws and have told them all about you. I have told them of the benefits of having
their stores/products featured on your web site. I had hoped that they had finally seen the light. Here's what I told them (copy of email I sent to them):
-----------
To: Loblaws TalkToUs (LCL)
Hello,
I do realize that Loblaws and some of its subsidiaries have their own website on which I can find weekly flyers, but I really feel strongly about the fact that you should also continue to post your flyers at
www.flyermall.com (I do not work for them or invest in them in any way. I am just a private citizen who needs and likes to find the best buys available in the least amount of time). I know that you are also affiliated with No Frills as well, and that flyer should also be put on flyermall.com . It was there last week, but not this week. The power of flyermall.com is highly underestimated and here's why:
I am proof of that. I have at my disposal, other means of finding all grocery (and other types of) flyers online except for No Frills, and
I used to use these other means of viewing those flyers online, usually at their own website - eg: www.loblaws.ca and www.freshobsessed.com for
A & P, www.sobeys.ca, www.ecoflyer.com for I.G.A. and Price Chopper etc. However, once I found Flyermall.com online, the only time I visit
these other proprietary websites is if flyermall.com does not have their flyers online. I mean, why travel to different websites when one website has it all at the click of a button?! The name Flyermall.com says it all - when I go shopping I'd rather, if possible, go to one mall to find all the stores I need so that I don't have to travel from one end of the city to another to find these stores because time and money are valuable (not just savings on products, but
savings on transportation - fuel, automobile upkeep etc.). The same is true online. I'd much rather visit one website that has it all than to
have to find time to hunt around for store websites.
Also well known facts: "window shopping" and "impulse buying" are very valuable retail tools. When I visit flyermall.com, I check out all the grocery store websites, some of the department store websites, some of the specialty store websites like hardware stores, depending on what I need, and then I will visit other store websites that I had absolutely no intention, desire, or perceived need of visiting. It's kind of an
online combination of "window shopping" and "impulse buying". It's "impulse e-window shopping", and I do it all the time. This is very valuable advertising for stores such as your own, especially considering
the coverage you would get according to the statistics listed in your "About Loblaws" link on your website (cut and pasted below).
I therefore hope you will continue to make your flyers (Loblaws and all of its other subsidiaries) available online with flyermall.com each and every week. Anyone who likes to use flyers will feel like a kid in a
candy store just like I do when visiting flyermall.com
Thank you for your time and attention to this email.
Sherry Laue.

Just a few words to No Frills!
by Jack Brown, Toronto
28-Jan-2005
It's too bad you are trying to "re-invent" the wheel, but alas, corporate policy and stubborness so often supercede customer service. I found when the No Frills Flyer was available at Flyermall.com (illegal as it may have been), it was very reliable and helpful It is too bad that No Frills is so far behind with the online flyer. I must say that Flyermall.com is truly a "consumer friendly" website and I find many positive comments posted by the growing number of people using this site.. I make mention of it whenever I can as a very convenient, easy-to-use, and environmentally friendly way to do a lot of "shoping research". Perhaps you might want to check the site out for yourself.

Yes, even guys like to read flyers!!
by Michael Goldhammer, Maple
28-Jan-2005
I have been a viewer of Flyermall for almost a year now. This month, me and my girlfriend are finally moving in together in our own little house. I am practically building the house which was in a bad condition when we bought it. And for this I am using a lot of material from Rona or Home Depot.. depends what I'm looking for and what they have in sale. We are not rich after all, so browsing the flyers has helped me save a lot of money.
But I am very frustrated with both Rona and Home Depot. I cannot find their flyer online anymore, and it is not distributed in our area either. Their websites are very crowded, but no flyer. And even on Flyermall, where I was happy to see their specials every time, I haven't seen their flyer for weeks now. I have already contacted these stores and not only they have no explanation, they didn't even reply back!
Am I expected to run in the store and check for special prices every time? It was so convenient to turn on the computer and see everything.
My girlfriend laughs at me for missing my flyers this much. But, as funny, or weird, or whatever you might call it, it seems, I AM A GUY AND I WANT TO SEE MY HARDWARE STORE FLYERS!

Takes a good manager to run a store
by ELIZABETH JANE CLASSEN, PUSLINCH
14-Jan-2005
I would just like to thank the new store manager at martin's food basics in Cambridge. There is such a vast improvement that I have started shopping there again!!! The aisles are clean, organized and well stocked. Perhaps you realize how frustrating it is to go shopping only to have the item you want out of stock...therefore, I have to go to another store!! I know this takes a good manager to run a store as busy as Martin's and I just want to say that 'whoever you are' manager...it is well worth it!! Thank you and keep it up....and maybe you could even sell Robin Hood flour someday

I want to see FLYERS!
by Chantalle Dupont, Etobicoke
07-Jan-2005
Dear Flyermall owner/operator,
Your website is very helpful to me and I visit every Saturday morning before doing my shopping.
But I had one complaint... Since you are a FLYER-mall, please give me flyers to see. I click on Loblaws and I have to get to a different website, then do some more clicks to get through for viewing the flyer. Please make it simpler, just show the flyer when I click on the logo!
It makes more sense to me anyways. First I'm not really good with computers (that blessed mouse will not stand still for a second!), and then my computer is too slow, so it is a real pain to open new pages.
Thank you for considering my compaint.
Keep up your great work!

Out of stocks at Food Basics- No raincheck policy

Second complaint to NO FRILLS!!!!
by Jack Brown, Barrie
04-Dec-2004
I have sent a couple of emails to No Frill complaining about their absence on your very convenient website. I encourage other Flyermall users to contact Weston's customer service as I have done. I don't know whether it will ultimately make any difference or not, but I think it's worth a try. Here's a copy of my latest diatribe:
Well here we are in December and still no "No Frills" website or flyer. It would be so much easier if you guys would simply acquiesce and have your flyer posted on Flyermall. But of course the explanation of "Zone Pricing" is one reason given to me in a previouis email as to why this is impractical for your organization. I guess the risk of providing variable pricing for people living in different geographic areas of the country is far greater than giving anyone any information at all. I want to sincerely thank you for continuing to keep us in the dark, wasting countless trees for production of flyers, putting consumers at the mercy of irregular paper deliveries, and generally blatant disregard for making things easy and convenient for "potential" customers. Keep up the great work!!!!!

Response to Mr. McPherson
by Joe Dilecce, Toronto
16-Nov-2004
As a flavouring:
For example, a "chocolate candy" must contain chocolate as per the standard in the Food and Drug Regulations but a "chocolate flavoured candy" may contain only cocoa or artificial chocolate flavour. "Cherry ice cream" is expected to contain some cherry ingredient such as cherries or cherry extract or natural cherry flavour, but "cherry flavoured ice cream" could simply contain artificial cherry flavour. An orange drink is expected to contain some orange product, while an "orange flavoured drink" is not.
In your case, without personally looking at the packaging, probably should indicate flavour.
And it's not Fortino's responsibility to change the packaging, they can inform their buyers to put pressure on the manufacturer.
Also, you also have the right not to buy it and inform your friends and family not to buy it. If other people want to buy it, they can. There's a lot of misleading labels on the market and it's just not with food. Are imported cars really imported??? yet people will pay lots of money to buy a Honda (which is probably made in Alliston) or buy a Toyota (probably made in Cambridge).
People should research what they buy, including food. Shouldn't leave it up to others to watch over you.

So Good Fortified Soy Beverage
by Nigel McPherson, Woodbridge
11-Nov-2004
To flyermall.com
Dear Sir or Madam
Last week I purchased a Fortified Soy Beverage with the brand name ?So Good? ?So Good chocolate), at ?Fortinos? Supermarket in Woodbridge.
I was under the impression that I had purchased a chocolate drink. However, when I checked the ingredients, I found that the only chocolate in the product was cocoa. Not
Cocoa liquor or Cocoa Butter.
Is there really chocolate in the product or just cocoa and flavour ?
How can they call it chocolate and show chunks of chocolate on the front when cocoa is the seventh ingredient. Surely this is Chocolate flavoured.
How can a Company like ?Fortinos? sell something this misleading
I have been on the Governments web site and I don?t think it meets the requirements to use the word chocolate.
If you wish to challenge this do not call me direct but reply to flyermll.com
Sincerely
Nigel McPherson

Your Website
by Kathleen B., Toronto
12-Oct-2004
Recently I have been frustrated with the number of stores I frequent not having their flyers online. I stumbled across this one today when I was searching for a website that would have the most current Dominion flyer, and sure enough, FlyerMall was in the results! To make my day even more, you have a PharmaPlus e-flyer!
What an excellent concept, to put a lot of stores' flyers in one convenient, easy-to-use website.
Keep up the good work.

Best Buy Perfromance Service Plan and Service
by Clyde Gonzalez, Toronto
09-Oct-2004
I had bought a computer, in November of 2002, from Best Buy, and had purchased with the computer a Performance Plan, it had been working fine until recently, so I decided to bring it into one of thier locations, they had one of thier techs look at it, he had told me that it needed a system restore, I had advised him, I tried that already, and that wasn't it. So I told him fine, but then he told me he does not have the disk for my computer, so I had to go back home and get them. When I got back he did the system restore, however I noticed a wire was kinda loose so I had mentioned this to him, he told me it was nothing, and cut the wire. So after arrriving there about 5:30 in the afternoon, I finally was finished at 9:43 p.m., then he told me I owed $70. I had questioned that, since my psp plan should cover that, I was told no, so I decided to pay it, since I was tired and wanted to get home. The next morning I turned on my computer, and found I was still having the same problem, so that night after work, decided to take it to another location, they look at it, and basically told me it was bad inside that if they were to plug it in, it would 'cause a fire, and I had to go back to the store I was last at, they would not service it, I finally decided to call there customer service line, they had advised me that the store should have looked at it, that I could go to any best buy, so then I had the district manager get involved. He had arranged for me to go any store I wanted and he would notify them, so I had decided to go to another store, I had brought it to them, they had to replace a couple of parts, but were taping the wires, I had questioned that, they told me it would be fine, so then I brought it home, after a few days, I finally got a chance to turn it on, after a few minutes, I had noticed a smell, and look at the computer, and noticed a orange light from the inside of it. it had caught fire, inside, sO i immediatly unpluged it, called a store, they told me to bring it in, when i had brought it in, they told me they would have to look at it, and see what can be done, so the next day they had called me and told me my computer which I payed $1200 in 2002 was garbage, so I asked what was gonna be done, since the Best Buy PSP, has whats called a No lemon policy that basically states if they can't fix it after 3 times they will give you a replacement, they told me I would not be getting that either, so then I called customer service again, the store had called me back questioning why I had called customer service, and said I have no right calling them, so finally the store decided to give me a replacement, when i got there they had put aside a $900 computer, with amd anthlon, when my computer that I had was $1200, and had pentimum 4 in it. so I dedcided to get another one, and payed $200 differnce. Now Best buy finally solved the problem to some extent, but I was so disgusted by the constant run around, by the ignorance of thier employees, claiming a fire would have not done nothing. by thier managers calling screaming at why I had called customer service, to me Best Buy is just looking out for thier bottom line and thier money, and not concerned with satsifaction of thier customers that make thier business, so until best buy realizes that its customers that make a company, the I wil take my business elsewhere. Thank-you

In regards to Aninomos and IKEA ban
by HOOKFAN HOOKFAN, Toronto
18-Sep-2004
I may be one of the few or one of the many that may either agree with you. I had seen this advertised and I went to this special price breakfast. I can quite honestly say I would rather go to a "mom and pop" type place where the people and staff tend to generally be friendly, the service tends to be good and at a reasonable price. I grew up on a farm, I know what sausage and egg are SUPPOSED to taste like, that wasn't it. Besides, poor service never rates in my books anyway!

After I send this letter, I'm going to check my liver!
by Ron Keaton, Toronto
17-Sep-2004
Hussein is absolutely right!!! I myself had to read this letter to check the CFIA website and find out what happened.. I don't normally visit the CFIA website, but now I am alerted! Plus, I read other alerts for pistachio products that are affected, like that one on July 29th for the pistachios from Internuts. So all pistachios are dangerous?? What do I do, I love this product, been eating it all my life! And all this time, I have been treating my friends to carcinogenic pistachios?
I did my research..typed 'pistachio' in Google and found some interesting articles..Apparently, the pistachios are good for the heart.. Now what is this? I might be dying of liver dicease but my heart is healthy? Are they playing with us? Or maybe I should choose which organ I need to take care of more..!!!
Now a biggest concern comes to mind.. This Shah Trading Company, what kind of products does it bring? Have they all been checked or should I look out for more alerts for products brought here by this distributor? And what brands do they bring? Do they repack? Which brands should I be careful of? Where are the details? I would expect to see a full report on operations from this company, not just the mention of its name.. I don't know who to trust anymore...
All I can say at this point I guess is CHECK THE CFIA PRODUCT RECALLS every day! And thank you, a million thank you to Flyermall for bringing the link to those recalls on their website. You are really informing us! Thank you!
Me myself.. I am not eating no pistachios no more! I am pissed off at all of them... actually no! I am pistachio off!!!

DEATH ALERT OR LIVER DISEASE BY EATING PISTACHIOS
by A Hussein, Montreal
17-Sep-2004
I am totally outraged at the CFIA alert for Pistachios dated September 3, 2004. I have clicked the link to product recalls, and have now found out that a possible life threatening bacteria or fungus is in some pistachio nuts already in circulation, but there is no explicit or descriptive mention as to which ones are affected. I am a consumer, and do not buy 20kg or 40kg bags of Pistachios as mentioned in the recall notice from the CFIA. Should my wife monitor my health just in case I have liver disease or die before making any type of complaint? I am writting here because I beleive this site to be quite good for explaining problems in the market place. The alert says S.A.M (I have no idea what a S.A.M Pistachio Kernel is) Pistachio Kernel, product of Iran, packaged in 10 kg. white coloured boxes with a Lot No. 48 which may have been sold in bulk or may have been repackaged into smaller packages of various sizes. WHAT THE HELL DO THIS MEAN TO ME? The alert says may be contaminated with Aflatoxin. Excuse me for saying so, but where the f&&k is the warning to the public for the statment of recall, if not only for the website? You mean, that if I did not see this alert on the website, where else would I, being the Pistachio lover that I am, would be able to get informed about the recall?
How many other individuals may be affected by products where recall information may not be properly distributed, who really need this information. How many people have died from this very serious contaminant which may be covered up? How many tonnes of product has been brought into Canada, and how many tonnes have been captured, and what was the accountability of the product thereafter?
The purpose of the CFIA, is to keep the public away from reckless harm, and too protect all consumers. This warning has a lot of ambiguity to it. The report says may contain, does it mean that it does? or it does not?
I am just a concerned individual who will now stop buying Pistachios, where it has always been a snack I give to guests of my house, and enjoy tremendously myself.
Another question is that if the CFIA knows which company (Shah Trading Company Ltd.), has brought these goods to Canada, why did they not check it before coming into the country?
All I know is that this alert has given rise to more questions than answers.

Pictures in the flyers are for new comers
by Mike Flario, Toronto
12-Sep-2004
Just a quick note to response to SILVIA GYUADEEN's question. There are always new immigrants coming to Canada who speak basic English but not to the extent to know all fruits and vegtables names. I guess stores are targetting those people by the pictures in addition to the fact that flyer without a picture seems more like newspaper, kind of dull.

Great site
by Peter van Rijswijk, brockville
07-Sep-2004
Great site something for everyone except if you want to buy from any loblaws store.called them e mailed them again and again as far as no frills is concerned they need to charge maybe 10 cents for their ultra "No frill" plastic bags maybe before they can afford a web site for their flyer but please keep up the good work so we can shop anywhere else because truly its their loss not ours
PS you'd think a store that has "No Frills" would jump at the oppertunity of a free online flyer with the great service's you supply to the ones that could view it here ;)
Everyone I know got the link from me via email and they all took me off their spam filters LoL :)

I do beleive that everyone knows what the banana looks like,
by SILVIA GYUADEEN, Scarborough
29-Aug-2004
Dear Flyermall,
I love the idea to be able to compare prices, I would just like to know why most of the grocery stores, waste so much space in the flyer, to tell me how much their lettuce costs, or their cauliflour, or the bananas, which are roughly just about the same price everywhere and everyweek? I can tell you that most of the flyers advertise bananas at .39. Lettuce from .69 to .79 cents per head. Brocoli from .99 to 1.29 per bunch. Why do they not summarize these items in one area of their flyer without the picture of the banana, because I do beleive that everyone knows what the banana looks like, or the cauliflour for that matter, or any other products including lemon, orange, ground beef, cantelope, etc... I would rather see the stores putting more variety of brand names items on their flyer, so I can really shop around for favourite brand.
Just my two cents worth.

urge the people not to go to IKEA.
by ANONIMOS a, a
23-Aug-2004
FLYERMALL Viewers: I would like to take a moment of your time, to let you know that I have worked for the last 30 years in a little restaurant making breakfast for people. I always try to have the best quality eggs, sausage, croissant, etc. And I can only earnestly say that at $2.99 I hardly make a living, and when I drive by the 407 Hwy I could not believe my eyes! IKEA the wood rotten stupid design furniture store apparently entered the breakfast food business and it sells breakfast for $1.00. To my experience if I would have to sell breakfast for $1.00 would have to sacrifice the quality! I was just wondering if there is magic involved, that they can sell it of $1.00, or is business so bad for IKEA that they have to use stupid gimmicks! In my opinion there should be a law with a trial and jury, with a sentence as stiff as the death penalty for people sitting in high-rise office buildings who are selfishly putting small business people like me out of business. I protest on behalf of all the people like myself that work so hard making an honest living, and to urge the people not to go to IKEA.

Bell Mobility Stealing Money
by Norm Wint, Toronto
17-Aug-2004
I have bell mobility's cell phone for years, contract expired long time ago. I moved to a new house, no signal at all. Missed most calls, when I was luck to be able to dial out, people at the other end said I sounds like calling from a cave. Called them many times to complain, was told I'm in an area with not enough coverage, tough luck. Finally fed up, got a fido, when called bell to cancel, they told me I have to give them one month advance notice!! So they can suck another month's service fee out of me, though there is no service to talk about...
Not going to have anything to do with Bell in my life time.

Has the CFIA gone mad? (spice happy maybe?)
by D Stenson, Toronto
16-Aug-2004
In all honesty, has the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) lost its mind? I mean, I do want to know the nutritional information on composite goods like soupls, ready to eat foods, candies, chocolates, etc... but for Gods sake, I have no need for the nutritional information and values of cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, anis seeds, and in general, other spices that I use in my cooking. In some cases I use less spice than the volume measurement of the head of a pin for seasoning of my food, so what benefit would it be to me to understand its nutritional information? I mean, its a raw material, a product that normally is used in conjunction with others. I think that the CFIA is breeding psycologically disturbed consumers. My friends are now mentally sick and are literally afraid of some foods that may have a spice without nutritional information on it. I think the CFIA may even give rise to a new disease called foodfactphobia. People (CFIA) get your shit together, and stop screwing around. Is this need for Nutritional Information on spices another round of interest group bullying, and trying to make it more difficult for the smaller organizations to grow in North America?

"ALLEN'S" Peach Cocktail
by MARTIN KRAVITZ, toronto
11-Aug-2004
I would like to complain about "ALLEN'S" Peach Cocktail.
I purchased this product because I thought I was purchasing a "good peach product". However, when I got home and read the ingredient list of this Peach Cocktail, I found that there is concentrated pear, grape and apple juices and peach puree.
There is no indication of apple, pear or grape on the label. I think this is very misleading to the consumer especially those with limited reading skills or food allergies. "ALLEN'S" should be made to change its label to reveal the exact composition of the product we as consumers are purchasing.
As a concerned consumer, I would not like to believe that "ALLEN'S" is taking advantage of my trust in its "BRAND NAME" (which formerly assured me of a quality Canadian product), and is replacing quality with "pretty" misleading visual product advertising.
I am surprised that the government is not watching this especially with a big company like "ALLEN'S" whom people trust.
Apparently, this is not the case, because as I see it, especially with this product, "ALLEN'S" is totally misleading the public.
Additionally, nowhere on the front of the label does it indicate that artificial flavours are used.
Sincerely,

COURIER:IN LIMBO
by Ayaaz Merali, Aurora
27-Jul-2004
Dear Flyermall.com Viewers:
Because of new US Bioterrorism Act, US FDA rules and regulations require that anyone of potential sender through courier such as Federal Express (FEDEX), DHL, UPS, PUROLATOR, etc send via United States even though the destination choice is another country than USA.The sender is required to register with the FDA to obtain the registration number which costs money, anywhere from US$.200 to $600.
This creates a lot of financial burden to the senders. I fully recommend that the Laws should be amended especially for submitting samples or any small parcel of food pack. Imagine if somebody wants to send a little package of some kind to his/her family in Latin America or Caribbean, he/she will have to go through the registration regulation and pay all this money.
It is my understanding that there is a backlog of packages at above mentioned couriers waiting to be returned to the sender because they are not aware of the regulations, the most courier companies are depending on the income from small packages that now cannot be sent.
The general public may not be aware of this yet, but I can only say that if I were a shareholder to any above companies, I would pull my money immediately because somewhere along the lines, people are going to loose their jobs and company may go belly up or Bankrupt.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen

I love this website!
by Amar Singh, Etobicoke
23-Jul-2004
I love the convenience of this website! It's very helpful, especially since a lot of flyers are not included in the major newspapers these days, and the community newspapers do a very bad job of delivering flyers. This way I can easily check what's on sale at the stores I regularly shop at & I don't have to call & complain pointlessly to the neighbourhood newspapers. Thank you. You've made my life a lot easier!

Spanish and Ethnic Foods
by Michelle Morgado, Mississauga
23-Jul-2004
For the gentleman looking for Spanish food products. The No Frills at Mavis and Eglinton may have what you are looking for. I recently started shopping there (shopped at Loblaws before) and I was amazed to find many ethnic foods like Spanish, Mexican, Portuguese, Indian, Italian. The other No Frills right by my house, and even the Loblaws, do not have half of these products. Even though it's a little bit of a distance for me, I find it worthwhile to go to Mavis and Eglinton.

Perhaps the young (I assume) man complaining about some-one asking where the bread is should consider another line of work. Sony DSCT1 5 Megapixel Cyber-Shot digital camera
by Paul Chung, Scarborough
17-Jul-2004
I would like to let someone know how absolutely frustrated I am about the new sony digital camera I bought. I would think that the memory card is the same and standard as many other memory cards in the market, like Secure Digital, Smart Card, Memory Stick, etc... Instead, I find out that the memory card, (although it looks like a secure digital memory card), it is not to be found anywhere, and I do mean anywhere. You can only buy the card from Sony. I hate to express such feelings about a company such as Sony, but not to be able find a little thing like a memory card in Futureshop, Bestbuy, and Radio Shack. I could only find this stupid thing after looking endlessly for a week, and had to pay $130.00 for it from Sony, cause that is the only place to find this memory card. I mean, what do you say about such a thing, where there are standardized memory cards in the market, and Sony just decides to get a wild hair up their (you know where) to make life difficult. Suppose I took a trip? Where would I find a memory card? Would a lady in the lake show up from no where and hand it to me?
I felt this need to complain, because I was so upset from this experience.

Energy Rates
by Linda Grewall, toronto
12-Jul-2004
I am sure many of you people out there have experienced what I am about to describe. Almost every evening these over confident sales agents (who can talk non-stop for a long time)from various firms come to my door step. They come and ring the doorbell and if you happened to answer the door then God can only help you! It is imposiible to tell them to leave u alone. one has to go through the whole ordeal of listening to their best rates of gas and electricity! These sales people try to convince me that they are cheaper than Enbridge which is known for its large size and good reputation. Why are they trying to mislead people? How can their rates be better if they have to buy the energy from Enbridge inorder to sell it to us?I sometimes I wonder how many people they have managed to mislead so far?

My Primo brand tuna experience
by Jack O'dell, Markham
10-Jul-2004
Dear friends, FlyerMall viewers and the whole world. I love tuna and always look for bargins in tuna, in brand or private label in flakes and water. In the normal size can we see in stores. but this week i was in a store and found the primo brand in a little 99 g can, a little tiny small can. i ve seen these cans in supermarkaets also under mama lucia and mr. goudas brands. but i always sthought this was a small cheat size, and never bothered to buy them, until this week, out of curiosity that is. when i finally opened and looked at that quality of tuna i thouight it was out of this world! the liquid was not water, but vegetable oil. The taste was magnificent!!. the best tuna i had in my life.this was so good because in was big chunky pieces of fish in vegetable oil. Im so happy about this tuna and not using the normal size again because these little 99g size pack a big magnificent taste!!

Price of gasoline
by Tin Aung, Toronto
09-Jul-2004
I have never seen any products' prices fluctuate like the one of gasoline !Every morning I discover that the price of gasoline has changed! It seems to me that a random group of people decide the price over early morning breakfast.I wonder if the gasoline price depends on how well they had slept during the previous night or how frequent their moodswings occur! To complicate the matter more, the price of the gasoline is very unrealistic forinstance the rate I bought gasoline was 98.7 cents! This rate is absolutely crazy!Have we ran out of whole numbers that now we begin to use fractions a cent! What stupidity is that? Who made this pricing strategy?I think we should have a minister or someone responsible to handle this!

Redpath Sugar
by Steffany Nguyen, Toronto
09-Jul-2004
For the last few weeks I have noticed that the price of Redpath sugar is being sold at different prices by the various Grocery Stores.Galati Brothers, Weston Produce and Highland Farms has been selling it for $1.49 while Loblaws and Dominion sell the same sugar for over $2.I think they are making too much profit by overpricing and thats why they can afford to open many more giant stores.

Ethnic and Spanish food products
by Jose Veiga, Mississauga
09-Jul-2004
I am a Spanish origin and I used to be a regular buyer of spanish food products from Nofrills near my house.I am sad that they no longer carry any of them and if they do they are very few. What happend I wonder! That is not the Nofrills I used to know ! Canada being a multicultural country i think Nofrills should carry the ethnic products inorder to contribute to the our existing cultures.
I tried to inquire form the cashiers and the managers and it was as if I was talking to brick walls. They looked at me as if I came from a different planet.

Petro Canada service
by Sherry Lynn, Woodbridge
05-Jul-2004
11:45 pm, right on Centre St and Dufferin, I need to put air in my tire. I try to use the air pump at Petro Canada and it does not show how much air there is in my tire. Naturally I ask for help from the staff, and he leaves me waiting and waiting until I lose my patience and leave. He wasn't even busy, as there were no customers there at the time.
Unacceptable! Where is the respect for the customer? Some people just need to actually be PRESENT at work!
